Who remembers the Satanic Cult scare of the early - mid 80s? That shit was insane! I remember when people thought that listening to Heavy Metal was a gateway to satan. :ROFLMAO:
Not gone. It's a perpetual undercurrent in the American psyche that likes to resurface in a slightly different incarnation every few decades.

The prevailing idea can also morph into different variation on the the theme. Here's a good example:

Brief: Teal Swan’s Satanic Panic to Anti-Woke Pipeline

How do the screams of the Satanic Panic echo in anti-woke politics?

This past week, New Age Satanic Panic influencer Teal Swan released a new video to 1.5M YouTube subscribers about the dangers of "Wokeism." Yesterday, Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) announced plans to form a Congressional Anti-Woke Caucus.

We know by now that conspirituality is a machine charismatics can use to generate mystical solutions to exaggerated or imagined crises. With Swan’s pivot into anti-woke discourse, she is taking the next logical step in broadening and secularizing her message.

What's not entirely clear is the pathway Swan has taken from Satanic Panic influencer to a New Age starseed, to unlicensed trauma recovery expert, to this potential future as a culture warrior. This Brief connects some of the dots, as the entanglement between New Age wellness objectives and reactionary populism tightens.

Ah, and today is the perfect day to mention that there were never razors hidden in apples at Halloween. Yet somehow this myth has persisted for decades, and people are still scared this happens. There might have been 1 apple with a very visible razor 1 time last century. How many here have told this story to their children?
I was never worried about eating an apple with a razor blade in it because there was never any fucking way I’d eat an apple on Halloween.

I remember the whole "razors in the apple" then and the "don't take pennies because they could burn bc people will heat them up with a lighter before giving it to you"

Voters divided on midterms despite broad Trump disapproval, poll finds

Americans broadly disapprove of how President Donald Trump is handling his job, and a majority say he has gone too far in exercising the powers of his office, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll. But a year out from the 2026 midterm elections, there is little evidence that negative impressions of Trump’s performance have accrued to the benefit of the Democratic Party, with voters split almost evenly in their support for Democrats and Republicans.

I wonder how much of that disaffection is from Democrats who are beyond frustrated with the often timid and weak response of their party's leadership to what's been happening since January. I suspect as we get closer to election time their enthusiasm to vote Trumpers out of office will increase.

I've broadly disapproved of the Democratic Party all my life. The backbacking, fecklessness and corruption disgust me. However, they have always been the best option in terms of pushing us in the direction I thought we needed to go. We've always done better in terms of the nation's economy, lowering taxes on the poor and enfranchising more people to get the POV of more Americans . They also are much better in pushing for personal freedoms and keeping government and religion out of people's lives. That's pretty much made me obligated to vote for them.

Working-class voters think Dems are 'woke' and 'weak,' new research finds - POLITICO https://share.google/H7cpjyWpnhp5LP5PM
The question is where the Dems find a media outlet loud enough and noticed enough for their case to be heard. As long as they can't have some control of how their message is presented, and it's not easy for me to see where this happens, any message they send is going to be diluted.

NBC poll begs to differ...

NBC poll begs to differ...

Yeah, CFord posted about that earlier this morning. We've also discussed how the low approval numbers for Democrats are coming from inside the house - Democratic voters are disappointed in the Democratic party. These are multiple data points.

Nearly half of Americans, 49 percent, say that the best times of the country are behind them, according to The POLITICO Poll by Public First. That’s greater than the 41 percent who said the best times lie ahead, underscoring a pervasive sense of unease about both individuals’ own futures and the national direction.

I blame that on Obama ,Biden, and the "woke" Democratic Party !

This does not surprise me in the least and explains why they continue to vote against their economic interests.

As Pete Seeger sang...

Oh, When will you ever learn?
They ain't wrong. Democrats left the working class behind in the 1990s. When was the last time they expanded the power of unions, curtailed the influence of capital, or did much of anything to address the very substantial systemic flaws currently plaguing our countries economy?
