April 5th Hands Off rallies

May go to the one in Houston as it is within walking distance of where we live. Unfortunately about an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms.

I have to work Saturday. Wonder how many people will participate and how rowdy it will get.
I’ve a feeling this one will be fairly tame, as lefties will be on best behavior trying not to escalate things—which would obviously play into Trump’s hands.

I expect things to get more violent as time goes on and Americans begin to really feel the pain of Trump’s hatred and stupidity.

I'll go to support my fam that wants to go, but what's the point aside for sharing mass grief with other protesters? Elected dems already know all the gripes. If they aren't motivated to action by now they never will be.

So who is the audience, Trump himself?
Are we hoping Republic elected officials will decide to remove their head from their ass and suddenly get cojones and morals?

I'm worried there will be instigators at these rallies. Everyone, be careful out there. Also, be on the lookout for ICE, for any non-citizens (hell, even citizens need to be vigilant)
There absolutely will be, particularly in high symbolism locations such as Chicago, DC, SF, Portland, Seattle.

FWIW, I still applaud you for supporting your family. I'm also going to the "hands off" rally in Winston this weekend. As is my 78 year-old mother b/c she's mad. If SS is eliminated, she's out of luck (we'll take her in of course, but she has a strong desire to be independent and live on her own, and we are supportive of that). And there's no hope for the Pub cult...you're right there for sure.

I do, however, think all of these inspirational acts could generate momentum for something as yet we can't quite conceive. It just feels different. The law tends to follow [or catch up with] social change, not lead it (thank you Professor Gary Francione, Rutgers University).

The pussy hat rally may not have been enough of a catalyst back then - more of a "we're mad Trump won." Political lip service doesn't often inspire much from anyone, but lots and lots and lots of people getting out and protesting? Pub-curious and Pub-adjacent (what we used to call "independents" - the same thing that MAGA cultists who don't want to admit they're MAGA call themselves) going to their own reps' townhalls and raising a stir? This might have potential and I'm watching with interest.
