1. OK, I agree that pointing fingers about this is completely pointless. Accidents happen. This was unlikely to have been the fault of any specific group of people, save perhaps the deceased pilot(s) and what's the point in that? It seems that this sort of thing was bound to occur given the congestion in that airspace.

2. But WTF are you talking about, a day to mourn? Mourn who? Mourn what? Did you have friends or family on the plane? If not, wtf are you talking about? Nobody is stopping you from "mourning" whatever that means to you. Do you mourn all the people who died of cancer yesterday? Or a heart attack?

By the way, this was supposedly runway 33. Why are there 33 runways at that airport? There can't be that many, are there? I don't get the numbering.

(y) (I took a bit of a media break for a bit to recharge my batteries, unfortunately now I have to start paying attention again)

I work with this data at work. Landing on the same pavement but coming from the opposite direction would be labeled runway 15.

And if there are parallel runways slap an "L" or an "R" on the end to distinguish.

That was you. I found that response mystifying, so I asked you about it. You are the problem here. You are usually the problem. Now you're trying to contend that asking a clarifying question about an obviously nonsensical and angry post is trolling. What is it with you, man? You have such a short fuse. Oh, this makes less sense to me. I mean, I get it but it's weird. Fortunately, it doesn't matter what I think about it.

Runways are numbered in accordance with the magnetic heading they are oriented along, truncating the last digit. So when you are taking off or landing on runway 33, your compass will indicate a heading of 330 degrees, or north northwest. 0 degrees is north, 180 is south. You can land/takeoff in either direction, so if landing the opposite direction you would be landing on Runway 15 (330 degrees -180 degrees=150). Same strip of pavement but opposite landing direction.

Consensus is helicopter pilot confirmed visual contact with the wrong airplane, possibly partly due to lack of explicit instruction from air traffic controller as to where to look in an incredibly busy airspace with ground lights in the mix.
