I was watching the Trainwreck episode on Balloon Boy tonight. I remember when all of it took place. Do you think the family knew the kid wasn't in the balloon when it happened and did it on purpose, or do you think they accidentally let the balloon go and didn't really know the kid wasn't in there?

Didn’t they admit they did it as a hoax?

The wife did, but she recanted, claiming she did not understand English very well.
Edit -- the husband pled guilty but claims he only did so because he was afraid his wife would be deported.

I'm fully convinced the parents knew he wasn't in the balloon and planned the entire thing for publicity. The kid's comment about "doing it for the show" was the giveaway and everything thereafter was just the parents trying to save face while limiting the repercussions.

I went as Balloon Boy for Halloween that year.

Back in the day, I used to do some Hitler reacts videos. I did one on the Balloon Boy if anyone is interested. There are 8 or 9 different CCs. Just select Balloon Boy from the Settings wheel CC menu.

The video of when they "accidentally" let the balloon go and the brother saying the kid was in the balloon looked like some very bad acting.

Title brought this cartoon to mind … it seems fine at first but about two minutes in it becomes one of the creepiest fucking cartoon shorts ever.

😱 PIN CUSHION MAN is pure nightmare fuel. And his balloon body count is crazy.

And that scene from 0:52 to 1:00 is somewhat sexually suggestive.

My favorite cartoon from that era is 1936's "To Spring." I liked it so much that years ago I purchased a DVD that contained it, just in case the "Internet" forgot it. I simply failed to realize at the time that the Internet never forgets.
