Not really. Lawyers execute blanket waivers all the time. You've probably signed contracts waiving all legal claims of any variety against your counterparty. There are some lawyers who can speak to this more concretely, but usually settlements also obtain "global peace" -- i.e. that there will be no further lawsuits arising out of the conduct at issue.

This is a global peace pardon. It just clears the air. It doesn't mean anything else. Ford gave a blanket pardon to Nixon because he didn't want investigations to continue at the special counsel level. It's not because he thought Nixon killed someone in 1971 -- at least as far as I know.

Now, if you don't like the idea of a blanket pardon, that's fine and a defensible position but SCOTUS has made clear that pardon power is essentially unlimited.

I was sent a YouTube video of clips of CNN/MSNBC really heaping on the praise based on Biden's repeated statements regarding not pardoning his son. I had no idea what a big deal this was. There has to be a lot of people who feel like put their necks out and got burned.
 
I would feel that way if someone with a long term vendetta against his son wasn't given the position, opportunity and encouragement to pursue it. Fuck that noise.

Indeed, and most of them voted for Trump. The leopards aren't going to be eating Dems' faces. We've already seen the Dearborn folks realize they've been had.

If you are talking about Hunter raising money for his investment fund, then that behavior is 100% expected. It's the norm, not an exception.

See, here's what you don't know about how private equity works: a private equity fund is not a single organization. Rather, the private equity fund manager (e.g. Apollo, KKR) creates lots of small LLCs or LPs. Sometimes there is one per fundraising round; sometimes one per client, or one for a handful of clients; and sometimes one or a handful for a single invested company. The fund manager then acts as a GP for those funds, and charges management fees.

For instance, I've seen the org chart for a Goldman Sachs private equity fund, because I filed HSR notifications for them. There are literally dozens of subsidiaries of that one. KKR has literally hundreds upon hundreds of them -- and that was many years ago. There are probably thousands now.

So for Hunter Biden to be moving money around different accounts is normal. And this is why it helps to know things before forming judgments.

Hunter should not have been pardoned. Yet another example in a long list of abuse of pardon powers and why we would be better off without it. There are so many pardons that are political payoffs, bailing out friends/supporters, and now family.

Did they go after Hunter for lying about a gun purchase while a druggie, simply because Pops was POTUS? Sure. But Hunter also got tremendous perks as Biden's son, very high paying useless gigs on boards of foreign companies. Can't have it both ways, unless Daddy is Prez.

Trump will also make a disgrace out of pardon powers, not just for himself and his inner circle of cultist filth, but also the J6 wackos.

Shortly after taking office, Biden opted to keep Weiss on the job and the investigation open. It's biden's doj that he is saying is weaponized.

My point was that nobody on the Dem side is "burned" by this, because nobody voted for Joe Biden because he wasn't going to pardon Hunter. It's not whataboutism. It's making fun of your attempt at turning a nothingburger into an equivalence.

Family members have been pardoned before. They will be pardoned again. There's nothing particularly newsworthy.

I could have written almost the same exact paragraph during the trump first election and term. I mean you guys were frothing and rabid about russia, russia, russia. Can't wait until he is in jail was the theme. Any of that sound familiar at all? You don't see any similarities?
