Second Day In the #4 Seed UNC Tar Heels meet, for the second time in three games, the Clemson Tigers. That’s pretty classic tournament material – can the Sub Carolinians avenge their loss in Chapel Hill? Does Carolina have the key to sweeping the Tigers? It isn’t that simple. Clemson likely lost their most consistent big man Carter Welling to knee injury versus Wake Forest just last night. He was a 10 ppg, 6 rpg starter who was playing well when he went down. Of course, Carolina now plays – for good – without Caleb Wilson. Adjusting to Survive and Advance is one of the themes for March and both of these teams are faced with matching the challenge. Interestingly, the biorhythmic prognostications are horrible for the entire game. Bottomed out together, one team will nevertheless win out. When last Bracketology spoke Carolina was a 6-seed in the Midwest and Clemson an 8 in the West. It is doubtful that anything that happens tonight will change that – at least on the Court of the Charlotte Coliseum that is – but the world is, otherwise, moving beneath the feet of the college basketball world at present and few things are perfectly set in stone today. Upsets can reverberate and will.
Frontcourt: Henri Veesaar is smart and fired up while Jarin Stevenson athletic and motivated. Zayden High is a smart guy with ‘want to.’
Wings: Powell is physical and Bogavac is soaring emotionally.
Guards: Trimble is low while Kyan Evans has his handle. Derek Dixon, of the big minutes players, has the best overall rhythms. Jaydon Young stands alone with great arcs.
Overall: Clemson shot abysmally against the Deacons and only R.J. Godfrey reached double figures with 11. It was ugly as is the way of the football school from Sam’s Knob. It will be up to Carolina to bring some smarts and basketball acumen to the court for tonight’s very late tip (9:30 at the earliest). Watch for Veesaar and Stevenson buttressed by High to be the go-tos and Derek Dixon to step up. Seth Trimble should be himself – he doesn’t need even good biorhythms to do that. Bogavac and Powell have skills to contribute and no one will play harder. Evans also has a good deal of tenacity. The Tigers look to be led by Porter, Godfrey, and Thomas – Godfrey must be contained in the paint and restrained on the periphery. Porter cannot be permitted to range freely either. Watch Stevenson on Godfrey and Trimble on Porter – they have jobs to do. The Bettors have Carolina by 1.5 – Ritmos go it better with UNC by 8.
