Biorhythms for @Kentucky: 9:30 Start

This category is troubling overall. It is a gut-check night for #1…his biggest test of the year/career. That’s where Derek Dixon could come up big…His 100 Mensa Mark for Intel bodes well for a step-up moment. Watch him very closely.
Prescient...

Not sure how good Kentucky is, but they were 10th in kenpom coming in…would like for them to go on a run if they get healthy.
Yeah I’ve only seen them play against MSU a few weeks ago and us tonight and didn’t come away particularly impressed either time. Still, a true road win against a team with legit players should age pretty well for our resume.

Can’t enjoy watching their fans suffer too much since I know their pain due to 2016 Villanova NC game.

The Iron Three
Just as we suspected... Coach HD is going to have to go with the starting front court for 35 minutes per game if we're going to be competitive in big time games. Obviously he has some half-way decent subs for the 2 guard spots.
Need Trimble back...
And Evans better watch out... Dixon may be vying for that starting point spot.
Luka has his starting spot solidified...
Powell is very serviceable off the bench.
I wonder how effective Evans will be off the bench - if he loses his job?
Need Trimble back...
Iron Three plus the 5 guard rotation = a good season
High, Brown and the rest will have to hope for some mop up minutes

ETA: Once Trimble is back - I think it becomes the Iron Four - with Luka, Dixon, Powell and Evans rotating in for small ball.
But the Iron Three in the front court has to stay...

Wins over Kansas and Kentucky very sweet. bTW, Michigan state is really good. Sets return will help in D obviously but hopefully with our stagnant half court offense. Bad start to season fir the fire Hubert crowd. I think it was one of his best coached games

Best coached games? Kentucky didn't score for 12 minutes and we barely won. We need Seth back. We need Evans on the bench. Need Luka to hit FTs. Our O scheme remains putrid. But at the end of the day, it was a win. Ugly game to watch, but a win.

We played some pretty good defense in that stretch. That scoring drought didn't happen in a vacuum. Sure, it wasn't all defense but we've seen with our team and many others how some tight defense and a couple of unlucky shots can cascade into that sort of offensive meltdown.

As a separate issue, someone mentioned our 30% 3 point shooting. Just wanted to point out that if that 3 that circled the rim where Vesaar got the goaltending on the missed follow had gone in, we would have shot 35%. Sometimes (although not in the MSU game, certainly) that stat gets a little overemphasized.

I think we have gotten much better with set plays after timeouts. Putting high in with I think 4:26, which was gutsy, paid off. Yes, we played some good defense. We have one loss. Perhaps to best team in country without Trimble, while going 4-23 from 3, and with Caleb going 25 minutes and just scoring 2 pts in that time. It's funny, the Hubert haters who point to Kentucky shooting are unlikely to look at our 4-23 and say if we shoot even decent we are right there.

I think Evans will continue to start but without a doubt we'll get noticeably more Dixon...in fact we may get them in tandem for some minutes in the coming games, especially before Trimble returns. The player who may lose the minutes could be Bogavac though even that may not happen if Stevenson is asked to play a few more minutes as Veesaar's back-up. Powell showed his value early in this one with his two treys and a steal but also was a good piece of the puzzle in the second half.

Stevenson's intense play on defense throughout the game was great to see. His stat-line is not impressive but he does important things for the team and is a great example of a motor in control. High had, in his 4 minutes, probably his best game of the year and that catch and lay-in deep in the second half was a significant bucket and had some high difficulty to it.

Team found a way.

I thought he called some nice sets with new wrinkles yesterday out of timeouts, primarily the veesaar/wilson ball screen for the dunk and a back screen for a dunk for stevenson in the first half, but i hate our over reliance on sets. for the most part Kentucky completely choked those off and we looked incredibly stagnant on O but we rebounded almost half our misses. I’m glad to see a renewed emphasis on offensive rebounding as it’s a great inefficiency that the Stat/analaysis 3 and layup teams often ignored/de-emphasized.

Stevenson is an interesting player. He’s not a star like some thought he might be when he was one of the top high school players in the country. He’s not going to consistently put up big numbers. But he has nice length and a good skill set. He causes the other team a lot of problems on defense with his length and mobility.
