Biorhythms for @Kentucky: 9:30 Start

I think Evans will continue to start but without a doubt we'll get noticeably more Dixon...in fact we may get them in tandem for some minutes in the coming games, especially before Trimble returns. The player who may lose the minutes could be Bogavac though even that may not happen if Stevenson is asked to play a few more minutes as Veesaar's back-up. Powell showed his value early in this one with his two treys and a steal but also was a good piece of the puzzle in the second half.

Stevenson's intense play on defense throughout the game was great to see. His stat-line is not impressive but he does important things for the team and is a great example of a motor in control. High had, in his 4 minutes, probably his best game of the year and that catch and lay-in deep in the second half was a significant bucket and had some high difficulty to it.

Team found a way.
Bogavac was on the cusp of disaster every time he handled the ball against the KY press. I thought Luka looked wound up way too tight to start the game — maybe the road butterflies in that kind of venue? He was trying to do too much on offense and it appeared the KY targeted him as the weak link on defense.

That said, he settled down some after his first stint on the bench (even if he was still jumpy/edgy against the press) and he hit a key three in the second half.

Stevenson is an interesting player. He’s not a star like some thought he might be when he was one of the top high school players in the country. He’s not going to consistently put up big numbers. But he has nice length and a good skill set. He causes the other team a lot of problems on defense with his length and mobility.
Seems comfortable doing dirty work and picking spots on offense.

Agreed. And he seems comfortable in his role on this team. I won’t lie, though, last night seemed like a chance to up his offensive contribution given the defensive focus on Caleb, but Stevenson didn’t seem to be looking for his shot very often (2-5 FG, 0-2 3FG for the game).

One place he doesn’t seem comfortable is getting out on the break — maybe he is a safety on defense in a lot of those situations, but the fast break doesn’t seem to be part of his natural instincts.

His defense is solid and often overlooked even though he can and does defend wings and forwards.

I think Luka and Kyan have put way too much pressure on themselves since the Trimble injury and they’re both pressing. Evans has lost all confidence and Luka was trying to do way too much to start the game. He was 0-4 with 2 turnovers by the first tv timeout. After that, he came back in, picked his spots much more effectively, went 4-7 the rest of the way with 2 assists, 2 turnovers, that huge 3, and, if he had made a couple front end of the 1-1s would have had 16 pts

Not at all how I expected that game to be played stylistically and it benefitted UNC. Kentucky was averaging 29 3PA per going into the game and last night they took 13 of them

UNC's offense will improve a lot and look very different in March. But that floor of defense and rebounding is a great change from what we've seen in the last few years

High certainly redeemed himself on that play because he looked high in the first half. He was not good.

Hubert agrees with you

Agreed...he's got to stop dribbling so much. Dribbles into trouble constantly. Every once in a while he'll get to the cup, but needs to figure out when there is a lane and not.

Was I watching a different game? That didn't look like a very talented Kentucky team. I'll take any win over UK though.

Not a ton in terms of NBA talent but for a college team?

Size and length at every position with good athletes. Much like UNC they struggle as a brand new team with no true point and poor shooting

They'll look a lot better if they get their 3 players back. Also a lot of rumors of turmoil in that locker room so who knows

It was great to see Caleb and Dixon outplay Moreno and Johnson

Johnson was shockingly bad

Yeah. It's almost like the programs that have the longest traditions and most success by doing things the old ways are making slower changes than those with less to lose. Kansas is having some similar issues. Those sorts of legacies have their own responsibilities about what you keep and what you let go. That seems especially true when it's hard to imagine this sort of chaotic situation not being reined in a bit.
