Biorhythms for U of L @UNC: 7 pm Start

I hope a part of the Heels' atrocious rebounding was due to Henri not being 100% with the short turnaround from Saturday's game @ Syracuse. He'll now have 5 full days to rest with no travel so I bet Saturday's effort will be better. No excuse for the rest of the team.
He definitely did not look himself on either end of the court.

Those, I'm pretty sure, are Carolina Fever aliases. I think there might be more but I'm not sure. It one of those things you're forced to notice, not something you study.
FWIW things are much better since I put them all on ignore a while back. He single handedly ruins game threads with his broken record whining.

The fact that we still won that game - and at one point led by 16 points in the second half - with Veesaar not having his best game (and without Caleb) is overall a good sign for this team, imo. Seth and some other players really stepped up last night when they had to if we were going to win.

He improved considerably and as senior in HS he now shoots well over 80% from the FT line and is the leading scorer in his small conference.
It is much easier to improve in childhood than in adult hood. Not impugning your grandson, because it's not easy to shoot 80% from the line in any context. But I think the point is that the work needed to improve as a 15 year old is much less than as a 20 year old. 20 year old needs to practice way more. That's why most NBA players do not really improve their FT percentage over time. A few do (Karl Malone) but not many. Lebron has been a fairly poor FT shooter over his whole career. He clearly became a much better 3 point shooter with a lot of practice, but he's left over a thousand points at the line compared to other prolific scorers. If he shot what MJ shot from the line, he'd be at like 45000 points or something even more absurd.

Yes, a 15yo has 5 more years to improve than a 20yo but look back in history and I think that you will see 20+yo college players generally shooting a much higher % than college players today. Of course, back then they did not have ESPN shows highlighting monster dunks and step back 3 point shots. Today you ain't getting ESPN love because you hit 18 of 18 foul shots.

I think players at UNC and other schools get into the gym after practice for a bunch of hours in season and off season.

My guess is they spend little time practicing fouls shots . My guess is they spend 90% of their time shooting 3 pointers and perfecting their "show for tv" dunks.

But I could be wrong...

Since high school I've been a 75-80%+ free throw shooter (and that counts for games). As a point guard I knew very early on that was key. I can still hit 8 of 10, sometimes 10 of 10, most of the time.

It is about routine, routine, routine. That includes balance and follow through.

I learned that from the aforementioned Coach John Lotz. If you don't know who he is/was you should.

John Lotz - Wikipedia

He was a Tar Heel great. Coach Smith mentions him a good deal in A Coach's Life. When Coach split up with his first wife I believe Coach Lotz was his housemate.
I used to go to UNC basketball camp. I won my age division FT shooting contest twice. That got me into a final competition with all the division winners to see who would shoot against lotz. I.made final two as a 12 year old but did not advance to finals against lotz. This was done at Granville. Lotz did not miss. We were recognized at a banquet as division champs and we're promised some kind of trophy/award but didn't ever get. My basketball career peaked that summer.

I frankly don't remember a free throw contest at UNC Basketball School but that is where I caught Lotz's clinics. I did win the Belmont Abbey and the Campbell camp competitions. At Belmont Abbey I played on the same team with a young James Worthy. He was a couple of years younger than me, 6-6, gangly and a bit clumsy. I had the audacity to tell him, "Look. Just get the rebound and toss it out to me and head down court. I'll get the ball back to you." He sort of listened but still had a tendency to grab the board and head down court at breakneck speed.

Good thing he didn't pay me much mind.

We did win the camp league though.

This was 1968 and 1969.

I won the free throw contest at basketball camp the summer after 5th grade. Also remember the summer after 8th grade my team didn't win a game all week during camp and we ended up winning the tournament at the end. I think that's the week Ranzino Smith called a tech on me because I argued a foul call when I thought I drew a charge.
