Biorhythms for UNC @Cal: 4 pm Start Time

We can discuss this without you making stuff up, or I can excuse myself. There are things that I think Coach Davis could do differently, but i'm not at practice every day. I don't see how the players perform in practice or what their attitudes are. I don't know what the coaches are trying to do in practice or in the games. I do know that they know more about it than anybody on this board. They aren't perfect, but in the end, it comes down to the players giving enough effort and executing what they've been taught. It's obvious that the players are not giving enough effort and not executing correctly. They did pretty well the first 14 games. I'm not gonna panic because the FT shooting is poor and the defense has been terrible for 3 1/2 games.
In a vacuum of this season you might have an argument - though I would still disagree. However, this is not a new thing for his teams. We've seen it every year outside of two years ago. At some point, you have to start acknowledging the common denominator - the staff.

So it's always been the players not giving effort the whole time Hubert has had bad seasons, which has been the majority of his time as head coach. They had one great run at the end of his first season and one other good season. The rest have been mediocre to bad. And this season appears to be headed that same way. It has nothing to do with the system Hubert has them playing, or the adjustments he makes, or anything to do with his coaching. If it was just about effort and execution, it's also up to the coach to make sure he is getting the most effort and execution out of his players. If for some reason the coach can't get that done and reach his players, then that is on the coach in the end. Like I said, it's not just this season. This has been a pattern and has been the way the majority of Hubert's time as the head coach.

Free throw shooting is every bit on coaching as much as bunting is in baseball or wrapping up a tackle is in football. It is a coached skill hammered by repetition and nothing else. It is not talent based or particularly athletic.

By the way, we suck at bunting too and I put that on Coach Forbes. To his credit, it was much more of a focus last year in practice and that showed. They have spent significantly more time on it this fall and I think we will be a good bunting team. Free throws are no different. Make every player shoot 100 of them before they leave the court. If they don't make whatever percentage you set, they run rheir asses off and then they shoot again. You do not leave the court until you pass out or make the shots. Do that daily and tell me FT shooting doesnt improve. Teams that shoot poorly from the line do not focus on it.

Let me see if I've got this right. You don't think Hubert can make adjustments? YOU? Really? Why don't you tell us more about it. I don't know if we've heard enough about it.
Why don't you tell us more about the free throw shooting. I don't think that's been mentioned enough this season.

Why did Jonathan Powell shoot 48% last year? Was the coaching bad? What about Shaq? Did he have shit coaches? Or is the FT shooting on him? Lebron has left probably 1000 points from the line on the table over his career. I guess he just didn't learn proper technique?

FT shooting is a talent. It is not about coaching. It is about want-to, focus, and practice. FT shooting is one of the most invariant skills in all of basketball, and it is not about coaching.

People seem to think that everything "not athletic" must be in the coaches' control but that's not true at all.

Play Dixon more and Evans less

Up defensive pressure and play more guys more minutes

Do whatever it is you need to not spot 5+ completely wide open 3s a game

Oh, and make a couple free throws

With all that still not a great team. But one that can win some games

The first sentence of my comment was "We can discuss this without you making stuff up, or I can excuse myself." The first sentence of your reply continued to make stuff up.

I didn't read past that because I'm not going to engage with you anymore.

The effort is a byproduct of the coach, too. Not sure how you can look at Hubert's tenure as the head coach and say it has been more good than bad and blame it all on the players' effort all the time.
Head coach ultimately owns the results. If some fans are fine with the results then that’s their prerogative. If they feel like the players aren’t giving enough effort then that’s on the coach to either get more out of the team, or to recruit players that will give better effort.

If we’d give up wide ass open made layups instead of all these wide open threes we’d have won both games comfortably.

Not sure why it took 4.5 games to start running teams off the line toward our 6’10 and 7” front line
