Biorhythms for UNC @Cal: 4 pm Start Time

Since Davis was hired in April 2021, UNC ranks as the 21st-best program in the country, according to advanced metrics site BartTorvik.com. The Tar Heels have earned a NCAA Tournament seed higher than 8th just once in four years – No. 1 in 2023-24 – and are quickly falling down the seed line this season. UNC currently ranks No. 36 in KenPom with a 4-4 record against Q1/Q2 opponents.

Head coach ultimately owns the results. If some fans are fine with the results then that’s their prerogative. If they feel like the players aren’t giving enough effort then that’s on the coach to either get more out of the team, or to recruit players that will give better effort.

My Berkeley record falls to 0-2. I’d like to see UNC win in some sport here before we leave the ACC.
I blame myself - I was here for a UNC football loss back like 7-8 years ago and the basketball game today. But I went with my brother to the UVA-Cal football game this year and pulled for UVA so I clearly spent all my karma at that game.

Here's the postgame PC from Hubert today...

I have to say that I feel for him. I can certainly be frustrated watching our team, but it's clear he cares about the team and the game and that he knows it's not working. And it's clear that it bothers him. I really do hate that it's come to this point and I hope the rest of the season goes well enough that he can come back in a few years as a beloved alum.

Those are my two losses, too. I was too dispirited to go to the Friday night football game this year.

Damn, that is a pretty gorgeous stadium for a baseball team at any level.

Enjoy and hope the Heels give you some wins!
You only get the pretty view from the basketball arena. The baseball stadium itself is pretty rinkydink and you can’t see the skyline from the actual seats.

Kinda crazy that both UNC and Duke went out to the Bay Area to play games vs. Stanford and Cal, and tonight the Hornets are at Golden State.

I'm just really sad it's come to this
Me too. I really like Hubert and have supported him from the beginning, but by this point it would be foolish to deny that he's likely done at the end of the season, and probably needs to be. His physical and emotional vibes at his press conference seemed to indicate that he knows he's in real trouble, whatever his verbal statements were. I do think he genuinely cares about the team, the players, and the program and its legacy, but he's just not been able to produce the kind of consistent success that fans, alumni, and the boosters expect from a blueblood program. I read somewhere that under Hubert we're 26-36 against Kenpom Top 50 teams, and at UNC you're not going to keep your job with those numbers (nor should you). I do feel sad that it's come to this, necessary or not.

I hope they will actually do a search and get someone better instead of it being a circus like it was with the hire of Belichick.

Sorry I didn't arrange to meet you at the game - was flying by the seat of my pants today (and frankly for the last few weeks). It would have been cool to say hi.

Well, that was one of the concerns I noted here a few days ago - I don't see the people who bypassed Bubba and hired Belichick (partly as a blatant power play) being willing to keep their hands off hiring a new coach for the school's athletic crown jewel, the men's basketball program. Of course one of the main figures in the Belichick hire just resigned from the board (John Preyer) so that's good news, but I'll admit I'm skeptical whether Bubba will have a free hand to make the next hire. At this point I guess we're going to find out.
