State doubled nearly every post touch after that. We had to pass out of it, and our rotations, while not great, still ended up in misses. Add to the fact that they were doubling two guys that aren't used to getting doubled, and it was tough. Can't figure out why we weren't trying to pound the ball inside instead of counting to jack threes. This was something else TH pointed out several times and he was spot on. In fact we did it the first play of the second half and got a bucket.
Maybe Stevensen. Shooting 3s wasn't working. Maybe nothing would have worked. I guess I just wish something else was at least tried.Pound inside to whom?
There was nothing really to try. Any team down its 2 best players is going to struggle in that situation. It really sucks cause that's probably a helluva game with the big guys playing.Maybe Stevensen. Shooting 3s wasn't working. Maybe nothing would have worked. I guess I just wish something else was at least tried.
Yep, this was the hollowest of wins but lol gonna lol.Yeah, crowing after beating a hobbled team. That fits.
we were especially stagnant offensively this game. Looked a lot like bad 2023 offense. Not really sure why, but the combo of Luka and Seth’s ball stopping is too much. They just continually float further and further out until they get the ball- disgusting to watchState doubled nearly every post touch after that. Morons.Yep, this was the hollowest of wins but lol gonna lol.
Let's go with average P4 team then. But, I'd argue this roster, without those two, still has enough talent to be an (slightly?) above average ACC team.Average ACC team? Average P4 team? Average D1 team?
You got to be more specific and even then only a few of the options are reasonably accurate.
Let's say the team is a low on talent as you're suggesting. Is that because HD/staff/GM can't evaluate talent very well or this is the best we could get (keeping in mind we've spent a whole lot on this roster)?I could tell that by the way we shot and took care of the ball.![]()
We're better than this.State is a decent team this season and we're playing them on their court without two of our top players and scorers, and they're a traditional rival. So I don't agree that this was likely a fifty-fifty type game. Yeah, we played awful, but I actually don't think we're all that good without Caleb and Henri. Maybe we should be better without them and maybe that's on Hubert, but the outcome of this game isn't really a surprise for me.
ETA: And I'll add that unless Henri at least returns very soon, and at close to 100%, the rest of this season is likely going to be ugly. It totally sucks, but you don't lose two of your top players (maybe your best two players) at this point in the season and not have bad things happen. And that's not an excuse for Hubert, as he and his staff will need to do a better job of adjusting than what we saw tonight, because what we saw obviously didn't work, at all. But you don't lose 2 of your Top 3 players at this late stage in a season and not have serious problems.
Oh, yeah. They are decent but also very flawed, and they'll suffer some more lolstate losses like the ones to Louisville and Miami. And I doubt they'll get very far in the NCAA tourney either. But they beat us, so it's fire up the tractors for a parade and give Wade an extension time.We needed to shoot really well to win this game, even with Wilson and Vessarr, and we shot like shit without them. State's gonna state, and that mound of a coach fits them perfectly and watching them stumble will be even funnier.
Roy always made beating State a priority every single year, and beating them clearly gave him a great deal of pleasure. And no doubt much of that came from the fact that he was old enough to remember when State was a major rival and not mostly an afterthought program with no national relevance at all. And Bunting also seemed to feel that way, which was no doubt due to the fact that he played at UNC and remembered those State games personally. Hubert of course also played for us but for whatever reason he doesn't seem to have the same burning desire to beat them that Roy and Bunting had, although of course he wants to win. Frankly Hubert and our recent football coaches could all have used some of the hatred that Roy had for those jackasses.State whupped our ass. Beat us in all facets of the game. Shot better, more athletic and tougher. Missing Caleb and Vasaar obviously put us in a pickle, but this is where flaws in roster construction are exposed. We could not hit the side of a barn from the outside...many were quality looks too.
We've owned State for years. This was payback for them. Wade is the perfect guy for that program...he will be a pain for years to come.

I watched very little of the second half and just had the radio broadcast on. TH said it multiple times in the 2nd half as well as the first. I'll take your word for it though since I did not.State doubled nearly every post touch after that. We had to pass out of it, and our rotations, while not great, still ended up in misses. I do though!Hubert was here for the Fire and Ice era at State (those were some tough teams), but he definitely doesn't have the burning disdain Roy had for those guys.
