You're overestimating our talent outside of Wilson & Veesaar.

I'd put us somewhere middle of the pack in the ACC talent-wise without Wilson & Veesaar and that's without considering how unbalanced losing those 2 makes us as we're without a reliable inside presence.

State is a good team this year, albeit very inconsistent.

There's a reason we were a significant underdog by tip-off.

Oh it's definitely not easy, particularly on the road.
This is where not having reliable post players on the bench hurts. And High has played his tail off these two games, but he's overmatched.

But it's not just about those two guys. Our guards cannot create offense on their own. And the open shots that we do generate we just missed tonight.

We weren't a 25-point dog. This team has more talent and is a better team than what we saw tonight.

I agree that tonight's outcome was a combination of injuries to our 2 best players, an unbalanced roster, a terrible shooting night, and an opponent who despises us & wanted to make it as bad as possible. If we play 9 more times, it's unlikely that another game goes as poorly for us.

But that doesn't mean we're better than "an average team" without Wilson & Veesaar. Without them, we're probably a slightly below average team in the ACC (and that might be a tad optimistic) and one that is going to be heavily dependent on hitting 3s (which we absolutely did not do tonight).

If the team played like they did against Pitt, with that emotion, that determination, that "want to," what would you project the outcome of the game to be?

You're essentially comparing a terrible opponent with whom we match up very well even missing Wilson & Veesaar to a good opponent with whom we match up terribly without Wilson & Veesaar who wants nothing more than to beat us as badly as they possibly can.

And we played about as well against PITT as we can with this lineup and played about as poorly against State as we can with this lineup.

While I certainly think we got outplayed for the majority of the game and some of that was energy/hustle, the biggest issue is that we simply couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from 3. Coming into the game, we were hitting 34.5% of our 3s on the season, if we do that tonight, we score 18 more points and the game is reasonably close. (And if we shot as poorly from 3 against PITT as we did tonight and that game is a nailbiter.)

You're really getting caught up in the emotion of the moment and the outcomes of somewhat random events. Tonight sucked, but I wouldn't take too much long-term from it.
 
Rhode Island beat #18 St. Louis.

So at least 1 team wearing light blue with a ram as a mascot played well tonight.

And not just the two best players -- the two best players who play similar positions. If we had either Henri or Caleb, but no Trimble, it would be manageable. But when your center is the SF and a PF playing about 2 minutes a game, there's no chance.

Who? Powell was a role player on a non-tourney team last year. Young was poor for a poor team. Dixon is a four star freshman PG. Trimble can't shoot. Jarin Stevenson was a bench player his first two years, albeit on good teams. Bogo is not the real deal.

And in addition to all that, there's no depth because we are down three players.

This team without Caleb and Henri is not above average ACC team. It is a below average one, and pretty clearly.
