Rough minutes from Powell tonight

Boga ok but don’t love the quick release 3s from Stevenson

Not the cleanest game by Evans but shooting like that helps. Needs to be better Thursday

Good effort overall after the Navy game and decent warm up for Mich St

Evans has to stop with the dumb fouls. Thought we got rid of that when Elliot went to Michigan.

Second half was better. Just worry about the sloppy play and lack of scoring that happened in the first half when the bench was in. The rebounding and taking care of the ball was better in the second half. Big game from Veesaar. I think the whole starting 5 is going to have to play 35 minutes for them to beat Michigan State.

good win but pumps those brakes st bonny was preseason 8th place in A10. we will know more tomorrow night if we are closer to being a contender or not.

Beat the spread by 4. I don't consider it a great win but it was a competent one. It's also the first game that Trimble's particular skill set was hard to fill. His defense in the backcourt this game was really missed.

Fwiw, with the portal, I don't take very many preseason predictions seriously. Never did much, but the personnel and dynamics of all programs have changed so much and change so fast.

Speaking of preseason prognostications Simmons II (22 pts) and Mitchell (18 pts) both entered the season without preseason A-10 honors. They were under-the-radar newcomers, Simmons from Gardner-Webb and Mitchell from Minnesota. Simmons scored 17 ppg last year when he played in the guard-rich Big South - Mitchell only pulled 5 & 5 at MN so he’s a huge surprise with his current 16 & 9 (he’s in his 5th year). Coach Schmidt also appears to have a couple of sleepers among the four foreign freshmen he’s brought in, especially the Italian Osasuyi (who gave Wilson some tough minutes on defense from what I can tell).

There are some pretty good indications that St. Bonaventure will exceed that 8th place finish prediction.

Missed the game, as I went to a local a High School game instead.

Indeed. There is a pattern. First half sux. 2nd half looks much better. When starters sit, the air goes out of the ball. But that's been the case for like... ever with Coach Davis teams.

Seems like Roy would sometimes have a stud or two to come off the bench and the team wouldn't fall off the cliff when a starter or two would sit in the first half. Marvin Williams, Nassir Little, Tony Bradley, Day'Ron Sharpe, Reggie Bullock, etc.

None of those guys are walking through the door for Hubert...

This post made me think about this question: Who was the best player to come off the bench for an entire season (not counting rare games where the player may have started when another player was out for a game or two). I’m going to go with freshman Jerry Stackhouse in 1993-94. Dean actually told him at some point in the season that he deserved to start and could have the starting spot if he wanted it, be he declined in the interest of team harmony.

Bobby Jones was an incredible 6th man during his soph season (freshmen didn't play varsity in those days) averaging 10 ppg and shooting 68% from the field, and, of course, playing excellent defense.

But Coach Smith often used his Blue Team ( A wholesale 5 man substitution ) to come into the game and disrupt the play for two minutes or so...essentially sitting on the ball, running plays in a very disciplined way all the while cutting down on the changes of possession, thus keeping the other team from going on a scoring run despite playing against lesser talent basically by holding the ball.

Comments from inside the building…
My son got to take a picture with Psycho T and an auto before the game. Saw Ginyard walking around the building. Bonnie fans were into it and friendly.
Lighting was horrific. I wonder how it felt on the court, but it was just weird from the stands.

Play: Simmons was incredibly fast and shifty. Why did our guys close-out on him with a hand down so many times? Mitchell was tuff. Strong, crafty. A good player. Reminded me of Justin Knox.

Luka - Too much dribbling into nowhere. Had some nice assists and great shooter, but way too much pounding the ball. He’s also super slow. Stevenson was solid. Caleb looked like he was forcing it a bit. He got bailed out by the refs on a few occasions. I’m still feeling like Dixon might be the best PG by the end of the year. He looks the part more than Evans. Evans can shoot, but doesn’t look super confident running the team.

Good win against a solid team that was really focused on playing hard and competing.
