Biorhythms for UNC v Syracuse: Post Game Discussion

Dook only scored 25 in the second half, but they also only gave up 22. So it wasn't the same as our collapse since we gave up 32 points over just the last 8 minutes.
Ah, thanks.

I was really hoping something juicy had happened, like maybe half the Dook team got into a fight in the crowd and they’d all be suspended for our game on Saturday.

Oh well.

Unfortunately it does matter. The metrics are more important than just about any other data point out there in terms of seeding.
Do they take into consideration personnel on the floor and game situation at that time? IOW, if, coming out of the half, our starters had hit a flat spot, shot 1 for 8 while they went on the equivalent tear that they did and took an 8 point lead, say, would the equivalent comeback and 10 point win be considered the equivalent? While it feels more triumphant, it would actually reflect worse play on our part since they would have done it against our better players in a more critical time. However the math would be similar. Is it that I don't understand this at all? I won't take offense if you point that out because I really don't. Seems like a useful tool but I'd be disappointed if there's not a lot more to it.

Hate this metric exactly because it does not permit bench players to get court time or coaches to work with different line-ups or schemes in real game situations.

That is something that I truly believe that Coach Smith would despise.

But it doesn't really matter. Both teams won.

It doesn't matter that much then.
The only thing that ever really matters is if we win the national championship every year. 2022 might be the slight exception to that rule due to the twin Duke victories, particularly the rivalric magnitude of each of them (K's last home game and FF), but I'll go to my grave saying we'll rue that loss to Kansas in the Finals more than almost any other loss in UNC history. You simply can't piss away a 14 point halftime lead in the National Championship game, regardless of general season turnaround and the two aforementioned Duke victories. National championship or bust, baby. That's life at the top of the heap, like it or not...

Of course the armor and robes of multiple Final Fours, tourny appearances, ACC titles, #1 tourny seeds, Dean and Roy, the whole "Carolina Way," etc, etc, are salve and comfort and yes, pride and glory during the long hibernations b/w national titles, but banners are what matter at the end of the day. I'm not saying all of those other things are mere baubles (some are, some aren't), but the crown jewels are the banners...

Not for me. I can now enjoy the journey. 22 was one of my fav seasons bc of the dook wins.

I'm here as well.

Titles are so rare if that's all that matters there's not much to ever be happy about.

After 2017 I the like UNC hoops had paid me in full.
I think Ray Wylie Hubbard had exactly the right attitude here. Note that he doesn't rule out expectations.

And the days that I keep my gratitude
Higher than my expectations
Ah! Well, I have really good days
