Biorhythms for UNC v Syracuse: Post Game Discussion

What do we think the point spread will be for the Duke game this weekend? I was floored when I just checked the ESPN app and saw that their metrics give Duke a 78% chance to win. Not sure I agree with that. And I don't think I've ever seen a team as nearly 80% likely to win in the Smith Center.

I'd say Duke could be a 2-3 point favorite, right?

I really like our chances this weekend. Saturday night, top 15 matchup, Heels at home, Caleb Wilson looking to show out, College Gameday in town.... Gimme the Tar Heels 83-80! See y'all at the corner of Franklin and Columbia!
I can't watch. I'll need to know we won before I can watch. I really hope we can pull it out.

I agree with all of this. Hell, 24 was a banner year by my lights, as was 06. I'll gratefully nibble the humblest crumb. But yet and still, the pinpoint thru the transitive nightfall of diamonds is the national championship, however awkwardly or triumphantly achieved. Certainly an accomplishment like that can only be but so awkward, 2022 being a prime example. I mean, you can't just luck into it...

I think Ray Wylie Hubbard had exactly the right attitude here. Note that he doesn't rule out expectations.

And the days that I keep my gratitude
Higher than my expectations
Ah! Well, I have really good days
Well put. My gratitude for UNC hoops and UNC in general and what both have meant and continue to mean in my life is off the charts. It's kinda like being a Deadhead. Or, to a somewhat lesser degree (but more and more lately) a Democrat or dare I say liberal...

2006 was an incredibly fun year. It was far from being one of the great UNC teams, but there were no high expectations going in and it was kind of a ragtag group of players by UNC standards of the time. They exceeded whatever expectations people had and capped off the regular season with a nice win at Duke when Duke was being hyped to extreme measures. And we were introduced to Tyler Hansbrough.

There were so many games that season in 2006 that I think remain very underrated in the all-time Carolina basketball wins pantheon. The win at Kentucky when we were unranked and they were top 10, and David Noel had that iconic baseline drive and dunk. The win at NC State by 24 points when they were favored. The win against NC State at home where we beat them by 13 with a 13–0 run at the end of the game. The win at Florida State win Wes Miller scored like 28 points on almost all three point shooting. Blowing out Arizona in Chapel Hill. Coming back from 20 points down to beat Georgia Tech in Chapel Hill in a game in which Tyler scored 40 points.

Since we're talking about metrics, here are the Kenpom numbers for each year:
01-02 = 137 (MD)
02-03 = 54
03-04 = 11 (RW)
04-05 = 1
05-06 = 10
06-07 = 1
07-08 = 3
08-09 = 1
09-10 = 61

So 13 seasons in the top 15 with Roy, and only went two season in a row at most out of the top 15.

And with Hubert 2 seasons out of 5 as of now in the top 16.

It's probably more fair to compare Hubert to Doh than a HOFer.

Roy Williams ain't walking through that door.

Where'd you learn to count?

There are five seasons for Roy out of the top 15. 2 in a row two times. And you're drawing the line at number 15 not because that's special but because it allows you to include one Roy and exclude one HD, even though the number is basically the same.

think you've misinterpreted the post. "two season(s) in a row at most out of the top 15," as in, Roy never had more than two consecutive seasons out of the top 15. which, tbf, can be said of HD as well.

His counting is fine as nothing he counts is factually incorrect.

And he specifically gives HD credit for the season at 16 by including it.

You could also change the cut off to top 20 or 25 without changing the results one bit.
