Five Hundred and Eighty Nine Games in which Carolina has emerged victorious on Four Hundred and Ninety Nine occasions for a winning percentage of 84.719 is the tally in the domed stadium situated at 300 Skipper Bowles Drive in Chapel Hill, North Carolina officially named the Dean E. Smith Student Activities Center. The building bears the name of the beloved coach and GOAT, because, as Chancellor Christopher C. Fordham put it, "We are a better university and a better state because he is one of us." The Carolina Blue Palace opened for games on January 18, 1986 with a 95-92 win over dook. This evening the Tar Heels will vie with another Big Four rival, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to take their 500th triumph. By the way, once upon a time arena, primarily known by its nickname, “The Dean Dome,” hosted concerts. Kenny Rogers was the first and other names included Pink Floyd, Garth Brooks, Bon Jovi, Guns N' Roses, INXS, R.E.M., Bruce Springsteen, and The Grateful Dead. Politically, in more constitutional times, senator and Democratic presidential candidate hopeful Barack Obama held a rally in the arena on April 28, 2008 before the North Carolina primary on May 6. That Dean Dome rally propelled Obama to win 56.1 % of the vote in the Tar Heel primary and go on to take the state in the presidential contest that year on his road to the White House. Around that time while campaigning in the state future President Obama also played pick-up with some members of the basketball team (Tyler Hansbrough, Wayne Ellington, Marcus Ginyard and Danny Green) on the practice court. He and Ty Lawson were backcourt mates that day. Obama clanked a lay-up attempt off the rim. Hansbrough was defending.

“The Dean Dome” is a historic and globally known venue and one of only 6 university-dedicated arenas that seat over 20,000 for basketball. It has a reputation for being quiet but I’ve been to games there when the din rivaled my memories of raucous Carmichael Arena. Sam Cassell was made to eat his words when he dubbed the crowd a “cheese and wine” one. Still, there should be more students closer to The Roy Williams Court.

Wake Forest comes to Chapel Hill with a record of somewhat deceptive record of 10-6. Coach Steve Forbes’ teams play hard and physical and will again tonight. They played #2 Michigan and #14 Texas Tech to one-point losses but were beaten soundly by Vanderbilt, state college, and Oklahoma. They are led by Salisbury sophomore Juke Harris (6-7, 19.9 ppg 6.3 rpg). Three other starters round up to double figure averages on offense:#6 Myles Colvin (Purdue, 6-5 Jr. 13.3 ppg), #25 Tre’Von Spillers (AppState, 6-7 11.7 ppg 5.9 rpg), and #1 Nate Calmese (Lamar, Wash, Wash State, 6-2, 9.8 ppg 5.0 apg). The pivot is manned in tandem by Omaha Biliew (Iowa State, 6-8 Jr 6.3 ppg 2.4 rpg) and Cooper Schweiger (Valparaiso, 6-10 Jr 3.7 ppg 2.3 rpg). A 6-5 senior (Rice, U of Wash) Mekhi Mason played good minutes and averages 7.9 ppg and 3.4 rpg. Sebastian Akins (Denver, 6-2 So 5.3 ppg) backs up the guards. The Deacons contact defense results in causing almost 16 turnovers a game and 10 steals. They pass quite well with 16 assists a game (Calmese is the distributor). Carolina must care for the ball tonight – staying under double figures in turnovers is imperative. The Deacons shoot 26 threes a game and hit 9 (Carolina takes 25.6 per game and hits 8.6 – with opponents hitting 7 and shooting only 30%). Carolina rebounds better than Wake and needs to work it Inside first before Outside tonight. The Defensive effort must be superior to the last losing outing.

Frontcourt: Veesaar and Wilson are both athletic AND extremely hyped up. Jarin Stevenson is strong and fast. Brown is solid and High above the fold.

Wings: Bogavac’s biorhythms have returned after a prolonged decline and Jonathan Powell is cerebral – clever? Young is middlin’ and Denis has good arcs.

Guards: Kyan Evans is physically primed while Seth Trimble appears ready to soar. Derek Dixon is no slouch and is topped out physically.

Overall: Full compilations of opponent birthdays remain elusive but research yielded most of the Demon Deacon numbers. Leader Juke Harris has respectable arcs and is another in a loooong line of native-born North Carolinians to come in as opponents in the Dean E. Smith Center – this is always a dicey proposition often fueled by a perception of rejection by the flagship of their home state. Watch closely who defends (the matchup bodes well for good minutes being asked of Powell but Stevenson will also be likely to play up on Harris too. Also watch for new defensive wrinkles team-wise. What happens with the defensive switching for example. Also, the Heels had an entire week to work on all of the wrong things from the SMU loss – more offense from inside the paint has to happen. Seth Trimble is actually the leading scorer in ACC play rather than Caleb Wilson or Henri Veesaar – the ritmos are good for Trimble but expect some enthusiastic working man vibes from Wilson. Carolina looks well-situated for this game and the gamblers have them as a 9 to 10 point winner. The biorhythms tend to agree on a win but see strong games from Trimble, Wilson, AND Veesaar for a 15 point margin of victory.

We look good in various aspects but man we just cant shoot outside shots. Even in warmup, we just put up brick after brick. Are there shooting specialist coaches out there we can hire to add to the staff?

Caleb looks gassed but our defensive effort has collapsed on the perimeter/getting back after a made basket or miss.

anyone have any hot tips for finding game streams while abroad (in South America)? I'm in Chile for the next 2.5 months and my US-based access to espn streams isn't working here
