Bosiders

And I see a major difference between a centrist, or moderate, and a “bothsider.” I think people conflate the two at their own risk.
every bothsider is a centrist/moderate, but maybe not every centrist/moderate is a bothsider - but i'm also not convinced that the space between those concentric circles is all that big.

You used to be one of those "can't tell them apart" centrists. Probably two decades ago, so it's sort of pointless even to bring it up. But bring it up I did, for reasons that might be lost to history
Was he?

Or, was he relatively young, immature, and naive?

The CarolinaFever posting today is not the same as the CarolinaFever 20 years or 15 years ago.

Most are centrists. Some bothsiders are far left/right.

In the current climate, 95% of bosiders are really just Trump supporters (or Trump-adjacent) pseudo-justifying their ongoing support of Trump by spewing some flavor of, "the left does this too, so I'm sticking with Trump." There are several overt and closeted MAGA posters here who do this frequently.

It's a screwy conversation to have, because in my lifetime there has never been anything remotely as toxic as the modern Republican party.

At the same time, the moneybag crew has in fact figured out how to give dopamine hits to both sides to increase their outrage in order to boost their ad revenue.

True. None of us are the same.

Life has a tendency to slap you around, change and adaptation is necessary.

I do know a few people in their late 40's to early 50's that still act like they did when they were in their mid 20's. It's sort of sad to see.

CF has always been one of my favorite posters.

When you realize this is pretty much the default view for those who are least informed on politics and the world in general, it explains a lot

^All of this. There are very few true bosiders or "independents" posting on message boards like this one - most of them are just Trumpers pretending to be otherwise. I'm always amused at the numbers of self-proclaimed independents I've seen in real life and on message boards and social media who, despite their independence, always seem to favor the Trumper/Republican viewpoint on nearly every topic (with a few minor exceptions), and end up attacking liberals far more often than conservatives and seem to like nearly all of Trump's agenda and actions while claiming not to be aligned with him.

Implausible deniability.

The field on which politics is played is financial. That fact was turbocharged by the Citizens United decision. One party has repeatedly tried to pass campaign finance reform and another party has fought against it.

It would be political suicide to bring a knife to a gun fight, even if you continue to try to pass anti-gun legislation.

I view many of the bosiders here as what I call soft political nihilists. They don't call for the two party political system to be torn down or advocate radical change. Many give lip service to wishing for a meaningful 3rd party but basically and passively take a bosider pox on both the Democratic and GQP.

But as Bob Dylan says, you gonna have to serve somebody... I choose to serve the principals and policies of the Democratic Party.
