On the news tonight (ABC I think) they were talking about Border Patrol is only going after people with warrants or deportation orders then immediately talked about a person who was detained and released after he had the proper documentation.

How people can't put two and two together and conclude the first statement is an obvious lie is beyond me.

It makes you wonder how many people are being wrongfully detained and/or arrested simply because they don’t have “documentation” on them. In this country, we are not required to carry around documentation, nor should we be. People should not be subjected to such harassment where government officials approach them and essentially demand “documentation.”

I live in Charlotte and we have Latino housekeepers and lawn service. I texted them both this week to not feel that they need to come to our house this week, or next, or anytime soon if they don’t feel comfortable doing so, and we will still pay them fully as if they did. I’ll happily clean my damn house and mow my damn lawn for however long it takes.

Looking up Bovino’s bio, he appears to have taken the Leader and Development Course at Fort Lewis. That’s a course for ROTC students between their JR and SR years; or, for OCS students.

No where in Bovino’s bio does he appear to have served in the military.

Did he wash out of military training?

Is he a military wannabe who found a home in Customs and Border Patrol?

His bio says he became enamored with Border Patrol after reading autobiographies of border agents.

I’m just spit-balling; but, Bovino seems to be a weak bully who couldn’t hack it in the military and found a bunch of brown shirts to join.

“Dear Ones, I rarely raise my voice on social media these days. Please know that this is not a political statement, but a personal one.

This morning, I spent four hours running ‘safety patrol’ as part of an initiative here in Charlotte to ‘help working families get to school, work and church.’ Today I witnessed a young man, perhaps he was 19 or 20, walking down a sidewalk in Charlotte. Three SUV’s swept in beside him before he could notice. Passersby began to honk their horns, including me. Their doors flew open, he noticed and ran. The vehicles chased him through the front yard of a nearby home. He was violently abducted by a large team of armed men wearing masks. It was terrifying. I can’t imagine how the young man must have felt. A few thoughts as I process what I witnessed.

#1. Regardless of our varying political perspectives about immigration reform, that’s not what this is. Why are they violent? Why are they wearing masks? This boy was just walking down the street. He was racially profiled. He could be a citizen, he could have proper documentation, he could lack proper documentation. They had no idea, nor did they ask.

#2. My grandmother is a Jewish holocaust survivor. In Europe, people were forced to wear yellow stars to identify themselves as Jews. Her stories of the gestapo breaking into their businesses and homes are horrifying. Today in Charlotte, neighbors are being snatched off the streets based on how they look.

#3. To be clear, I did not help anyone go to school, church, or work today. Every door is locked, businesses are closed, children are staying home, but I know what I saw. As a person of faith, sometimes it is important to ‘bear witness.’ When a variety of truths are coexisting and fellow humans are under siege, we are called to pay attention. My actions and words are driven by my personal conviction of faith as I pray for an end to this violence in our city.

What can we do?

1. Frequent Latino owned businesses!

2. Donate money, food, or grocery gift cards for families who cannot work or leave their homes safely. Congregations, food pantries, and other organizations near you can be found online.

3. Be alert! Keep your eyes open. If you witness an abduction, try to bring attention to what is happening and record the incident.

4. Choose love and kindness. Act according to your personal convictions of faith for the common good.

Please let me know if you need help finding a way to engage that is right for you, and pray for our city.”

“… Bovino also holds two master’s degrees in National Security Strategy from the National War College, and in Public Administration from Appalachian State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree, Magna Cum Laude, in Natural Resources Management and Forestry from Western Carolina University. Additionally, he completed the CBP Leadership Institute in 2012 and the Department of Homeland Security’s Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program in 2016.…”

No military service but he did well in school at WCU at least.

I find it humorously coincidental that they put a guy named bovino in charge of rounding up immigrants who they claim brought bovines across the border with them.

And if they continue this into next year, and I fully expect they will, they'll likely hope and try to hold down the vote in those blue urban areas somehow. And sadly their MAGA rural, small-town base is likely eating this stuff up, and it's a dream scenario for many of them, given the long-standing antipathy of rural folk towards city folk.
Saw an article on CNN yesterday that ICE raided some small Ohio town in middle of nowhere bc some Karen called to narc out the workers at a Mexican restaurant there.

Town more divided about it than I would have thought

One of my partners’ neighbors witnessed a landscaper being snatched off her street in Dilworth by BP/ICE while he was working. Not sure of his immigration status, but certainly jarring.
Just cleaning up the crime-infested streets of Dilworth.
