I live here in Southern California and while we have wildfires multiple times a year, nothing about this week's fires is normal.
Wind Event has not been seen since 2011. What was unique about this week's winds were their strength at lower elevations
January is not normally a time of severe fire weather. It usually occurs when it's warmer and usually we've had significant rain by January.
Entire neighborhoods burnt to the ground: This is not normal for SoCal. Typically homes in the hills surrounded by brush are destroyed, but entire city blocks are not.
