If you’re at the point of abandoning your vehicle and hoofing it, the shit has exploded all over the fan and you might not be able to make it to safety.A fair amount of over-sensationalizing in those tweets. Nothing is get wiped off the map. There are houses burning, but they will be rebuilt. The vast majority of the acreage burning right now is in the Will Rogers/Santa Monica Mountains. The wind is blowing it down the hill quickly, so it will take out some of the houses, but this is simply a fact of life in LA now. The winds are stronger than usual, but this is all stuff Cal Fire and LA Fire has ample experience and equipment to handle.
The big concern with the fast moving fires is making sure people don't get gridlocked trying to get out -- that is what killed every body in Lahaina and Paradise. It sounds like people made the smart decision to abandon their cars and just hoof it out.
You’ll get spot fires all the way to the ocean due to the wind. The question is always whether those spot fires start to burn out of control.NoMo is north of Montana which is a main east/west artery through northern Santa Monica. It’s pretty much adjacent to Pacific Palisades to the south/southeast along the coast.
The winds shouldn’t blow things down into that area and Brentwood. I’d think they’d be blowing more westward like a standard Santa Ana. But I guess the landscape of the canyons and wind shifts mean anything in that area could be threatened. But typically fires like these burn toward the water. Which isn’t good news for the Palisades however.
Those hill side streets are very narrow and all you need is some idiot getting stuck on a three point turn to screw it up for everyone upslope. If you’re at the point of abandoning your vehicle and hoofing it, the shit has exploded all over the fan and you might not be able to make it to safety.
A buddy’s son and his girlfriend are in NoMo (no clue where that is). They’ve bailed and are heading to my buddy’s home in Manhattan Beach.
By “fire bugs,” do you mean arsonists? You’ll get spot fires all the way to the ocean due to the wind. The question is always whether those spot fires start to burn out of control.
There is already another big fire 50 miles to the east in Altadena and my guess is another one or two will crop up tonight (the fire bugs love this shit).
But that is pretty much standard fare for the big Santa Ana gust days. You are going to lose hundreds of homes.
Yes. This is their f’ing Fourth of July.By “fire bugs,” do you mean arsonists?
AssholesYes. This is their f’ing Fourth of July.
Obviously, it COULD be natural causes. The wind will blow down the power lines that haven’t been placed underground yet (and then PG&E or SCE is sued for billions). But I always place by default blame on arsonists until proven otherwise.Assholes
And a third fire near Burbank now. We may be up to a half dozen by the morning. You’ll get spot fires all the way to the ocean due to the wind. The question is always whether those spot fires start to burn out of control.
