It takes dedication to be this awful.
He either doesn't know what the government he's about to take over is doing, or he's intentionally lying. Which is it, Pubs?

The Biden administration is flush with cash to help California as deadly fires spread near Los Angeles, thanks to the $100 billion in disaster aid Congress cleared before Christmas.

As President-elect Donald Trump accuses Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom of inadvertently causing the fires raging near Los Angeles, the Biden administration is surging federal help to the region with money from the disaster aid package Congress approved in December for agencies like FEMA and the Forest Service. California is already set to be reimbursed for firefighting costs, after FEMA approved a grant Tuesday night, and federal firefighters are on the scene.

Ramrouser? Callatoroy? PandemicBlue? One of you want to weigh in on this? You want to try to defend your president dishonestly attacking the people trying to deal with an active natural disaster just because they happen to be Democrats?

If you're going to be meaningful contributors to this board, we need to hear your input on things like this.

About the LA Fire Department budget:

“…
Bass also took heat from far-left activists online, who accused the mayor of cutting the fire department’s budget in order to pay for a costly new contract with the city’s police. Also weighing in against her was Patrick Soon-Shiong, the politically idiosyncratic owner of the Los Angeles Times, who echoed the attack, posting on X that “the Mayor cut LA Fire Department’s budget by $23M.”

That assertion is wrong. The city was in the process of negotiating a new contract with the fire department at the time the budget was being crafted, so additional funding for the department was set aside in a separate fund until that deal was finalized in November. In fact, the city’s fire budget increased more than $50 million year-over-year compared to the last budget cycle, according to Blumenfield’s office, although overall concerns about the department’s staffing level have persisted for a number of years.

But the mayor’s team did not push back on the record to inquiries about Soon-Shiong’s post, allowing the incorrect information to circulate widely online for most of Wednesday. Bass briefly noted in the news conference that LAFD’s budget was higher than what was allocated on July 1. …”

To be fair, Bass might have been a little busy yesterday.

It's a feature, not a bug. They're not going to defend it because it's this type of shit that they get off on.

She committed a political error by not returning from Ghana sooner and yes she has her hands full but politicians need to have a dedicated 24/7 team to respond to mining and disinfo. That is sad but unfortunately true.

“… “We’ve had to start moving everybody around like Tetris pieces,” Mr. McManus said, adding, “We still have a line of people with their pets outside, waiting to bring them in.”

Megan Fenner, the administrator for the Lange Foundation, an animal shelter in West Los Angeles, said she had gotten close to 60 calls from panicked pet owners since the fires began. The rescue is distributing pet food, blankets and medication to owners who may have left in a hurry without necessary supplies.

…. Ms. Montanez, hunkered down in a hotel room in Marina del Rey, does not yet know if her home burned down or if the clothing store she owns in the Palisades was destroyed. “Those are not necessarily on the forefront of my mind as much as the importance of my dog and my child being safe and with me,” she said.“

I'm not arguing with you, but these types of hot takes seem a little hasty to me. Would it have been better if Bass had not been in Ghana when all this started? Yes, of course. Did she know these fires might happen when she left for Ghana? I have no idea. Maybe she does deserve some criticism. But it's not exactly easy to get from Ghana to LA on a moment's notice. And while I agree it would be smart for the LA mayor to have a staff dedicated to rebutting disinformation, that staff was also probably busy over the last couple of days, especially if Bass was trying to get back from Ghana on an expedited basis.

Regardless, what's unconscionable is the soon-to-be president of the United States attacking Bass and Newsom while they're in the middle of triaging one of the worst disasters in recent California history. It's despicable, immoral, grotesque behavior by the leader of the Republican Party, and I'm still waiting for a single one of the GOPers who post here to make any effort at defending it.
