Actually, a new or perhaps a reinvigorated alliance of free, democratic nations who don’t like countries being led by facsist authoritarian oligarchs, are banding together to form a new coalition to fight the Cold War against Russia and China. Trump wanted EU and NATO countries to pony up more for defense - and he gets his wish. Except only they’re moving on without the isolationist US assholes.I can't emphasize enough how hated the US is right now. It's not nearly as bad in the UK as it was in Canada, but Trump is right - the US is no longer a laughing stock; it's reaching Russia levels of distrust and hatred. I have never seen isolationism develop results so quickly. It is only going to get worse as democracy slips away and China replaces the US as both soft and hard power dominant force all over the planet.

I Just Lost My Job Because I'm An American

I think most Western democracies/representative republics pay election workers.Interesting. Canada pays its poll workers. A guide to the 200,000 temporary jobs offered by Elections Canada for the upcoming federal election
I was contacted by BC Interior Health a couple of weeks ago, unprompted. They obviously didnt offer a job, site unseen, but were clear that 1. Get your license, you’ll get a job, 2. I wasn’t going to be limited to undesirable areas. The US brain drain in healthcare and heath research will be unprecedented - jaw dropping, in fact. If this shit [looks around at everything] isn’t halted fast (it won’t), US life expectancy and QoL metrics will tumble within 5 years.
Nova Scotia's health authority says it has hired one doctor eager to leave the United States because of President Donald Trump, and is in talks with more than two dozen more.
The authority launched a digital recruiting campaign in the U.S. in November, targeting physicians feeling uneasy about the election results.
"We saw it as an opportunity with the election to remind folks and the leads that we have in the U.S. that we are here, ready and waiting for them should they wish to choose Nova Scotia to come practise here," said Katrina Philopoulos, the director of physician recruiting.
Nova Scotia Health has been actively recruiting south of the border for years, but the new campaign led to 150 responses.
"We have seen some in certain specialties that have decided that they're worried about how the changes in the U.S. will change their practice," Philopoulos said.
I agree. I have been a poll "observer" for about ten years. I sit in a chair with my cell phone in my pocket ready to arise and help someone who has been turned away, ONCE WE BOTH WALK OUT OF THE POLLING PLACE. The folks actually manning the polling place are paid by the county. The help I can offer has overwhelmingly fallen into one of three categories: (a) tell the voter to request a provisional ballot (which the paid poll workers have usually already offered), (b) if during early voting, look at my watch and ask the voter if they think they have time to drive home and get their approved photo ID, or (c) if on election day, look at my watch and ask the voter if they think they have time to drive to the correct voting location, which would be where they are registered to vote. Side note: During early voting, the paid poll workers are very good about "same-day registration" for folks who have moved or are not properly registered. Problems during early voting are much easier to solve than problems on election day. People who show up ten minutes before the polls close on election day at the wrong voting location (a) make me mad and (b) make me think they are some sort of provocateur.I think most Western democracies/representative republics pay election workers.
