Charlie Kirk shot and killed at Utah rally.

Whatever this kid's exact ideology turns out to be (and it may be a little incoherent) it's clear that he was hyper online. If nothing else comes from this maybe this can help us have a much-needed reckoning about how toxic online spaces are and how they incentivize and promote extremist rhetoric and action. Social media and other online spaces are rotting out kids' brains.
Absolutely.

This kid was clearly groyper.

A few thoughts on why I think this conclusion is wrong:

1) The kid is imitating the meme in 2018 as a 15-year-old. Kids change a lot between 15 and 22.

2) Pepe memes eventually expanded well outside the alt-right bubble.

3) This particular "gropnik" meme was never specific to the alt-right.

4) The bullet casings and his talk about Kirk's speech.

Interesting thread! I follow a lot of commentators on the far right, but I'm unfamiliar with Cochran. But I hope he's right about the shooter's political motivations. That being said, none of this stuff about Groypers makes sense of the shooter's comment's about Kirk's speech.

If you are looking for which party to blame, than maybe. But when you consider the fact that the internet is spreading hate, it absolutely matters. People susceptible to conspiracy often oscillate between views, and grow angry with those that they feel manipulated them in the past.
