They likely donāt. I get frustrated with NYC precisely because I know sheās smart AF and I know she doesnāt agree with ram. And I know sheās not a flaming liberal. So I find it disappointing that instead of asking ram āwhy would that even matterā she apparently runs off to investigate if ramās obvious hate-fueled claim is true or not. As a gay person, if I donāt feel like people like people like NYC have my back, it worries me. I wish everyone here would go and watch Celluloid Closet and see that the way trans people are being portrayed today is exactly how gay people were portrayed in the past - sick and or criminal. It took a fucking battle for gay people to get beyond that so itās shitty to see well meaning people fall for the same shtick.
Iām genuinely sorry that you perceive my post of some of the news distressing or that you perceive that as some indication that I somehow donāt support LGBTQ+ people. I think I have been very consistently clear that is not the case.
There are a ton of claims out there I am not sharing because they do not appear supported by reasonably rigorous reporting. I posted the initial Fox online post about the roommate only with a critique of the reporting and the reporter, but Fox was running with it and I posed it here because it is relevant to the discussion.
I posted details from the NY Post article because it is getting traction but also to call attention to how sketchy some of the reporting is (and to me how nasty the tone of the unnamed relative of the roommate is).
I didnāt do that to support or antagonize anyone, but I also donāt see how ignoring that reporting changes anything.
I am deeply troubled by the handling of this by the FBI and whatever law enforcement has raked prior debunked stories in this case. But several details have made me dubious of the groyper speculation (particularly reports that the shooter considered Kirk to be spewing hate ā a groyper would be angry that Kirk is not hateful enough).
As much as I read about the extreme far right, I havenāt read much about the toxic gamer community culture since the days of Gamergate. As a result, Iāve been on a learning curve trying to grasp what reads to me like a more anarchist stew that doesnāt fit perfectly into a far right or far left narrative. And I think the general lack of knowledge about that insular online community has created a lot of ill-informed media speculation about some of the details here.
Anyway, the story about the roommate is pretty ugly because there are a lot of strands to pull at here that donāt all make a ton of sense and meanwhile it is feeding a mob mentality against a small, vulnerable minority. I prefer the MAGA mob focus on the left generally than be gifted the target they want and government support to vilify and torment all transgender people even more than is already happening.
I find this all immensely upsetting personally but I also donāt believe in looking away or ignoring reports I donāt want to believe.
