Christmas season discussions. (2025)

I was off work today and got the tree up and put out some decorations outside. Didn't decorate the tree yet and still have lights to put up around the top of the front porch.

As someone who has done that, be careful what you wish for. It is all consuming and overwhelming to continually try to one up yourself.

My kids love it and it’s all positive vibes. We will go get a tree tomorrow, earliest ever for us, and start. But personally, im like aGDevil in that very soon after I want all the clutter gone.
 
Tree, garland and wreaths purchased. All fresh cut.
Tree up, but not decorated… that’s for after Thanksgiving.
I decided a couple years ago to fetch the tree ( tradition is to go up hwy 181 N or 321 N to Avery or Watauga county) on Wednesday BEFORE Thanksgiving to fetch the greens. Waiting until Thanksgiving weekend becomes a bit of a hassle with the crowds. Highly recommend a day early if you can swing it. Then utilize the weekend to finish with lights and such… more chill that way.

You are welcome to borrow mine. Just the lights fills an enclosed 16ft trailer stacked floor to ceiling. More than 100,000 programmable LED's. They haven't been out of storage since 2023. I used to start putting them up about the 2nd week of October and finish Thanksgiving week.
 
I used to mock those that put out decorations before Thanksgiving. Now I’m more like, if it brings you joy, go for it.

We had tradition of putting up the tree the day of the UNC game in mid December.
 
My favorite time at Christmas is that night at midnight. It's the longest time until I have to deal with Christmas again. Even the hassle of cleaning afterward is more relaxing than preparing for it.

And don't get me started on the pessimism New Years brings. Bah Humbug.

No. My schedule is about as full as I can handle already. At least my crutches are real.
