Coach K's grandson was charged with DWI after running over and killing a 15-year-old on a bicycle. He is the brother of the one that played basketball for Duke and was charged with DWI when he was on the team.

This is a tragedy and has nothing to do with K.

I hate this type of reporting. Just report the damn news, you don't have to try to get more clicks by including a recognizable figure because you can connection him in under 5 degrees of separation.

And 0.11... How many people drive with that. It's what 2 beers for a man?

Don't drink ANYTHING and drive. Easier to say now that I'm in my 40s and not dumb in my 20s

Depends on the beers, but it’s probably more like 5 or 6 (if not more).

Reading the article it appears the 0.11 was at 12:45 am while the accident occurred at 9:00 pm, so there was a considerable amount of time between when the accident was and when he was tested. So he was likely way more drunk than even that.

A 175-pound man would have a BAC of 0.11/0.12 after consuming SIX 5.0 12-ounce beers within an hour.

Humans metabolize alcohol at approximately 0.015% per hour.

Draft beer in most places is a pint glass; so, 1/3 more beer than a 12-ounce can or bottle. Plus, many beers are much higher than 5% alcohol (certainly most IPA’s are).

Yeah, not sure why they waited so long to test him. That is absurd.

It’s not at all unusual. First, they probably had to keep him on scene for a while as they investigated the accident. Then they had to take him to the police station. Then they have to give him an opportunity to call witnesses. Then they have to observe him for a period of time (at least 15 minutes) to ensure he doesn’t consume anything between the arrest and the intoxilyzer. It’s also possible that he received medical treatment as this involved an accident. That would delay it more.
