Coffee thread

I switched from drip to espresso 4-5 years ago and haven’t looked back. Make one each morning and that’s that. Minimal bean usage

Picked up a cheap machine that does the basics and an expensive hand grinder. The grinding gets a little old but is worth the effort

I just buy the freshest beans I can from local roasters. Can’t say I have real preferences beyond that. Most are on the darker side Italian roasts

I've found I prefer light to medium roost - that being said I'm not drinking my coffee black - I'll add a little sugar and vanilla syrup and milk

I've drunk that capsule coffee and it does have caffeine but I don't too much trust what they put in there. To damn with faint praise, it is cleaner, better and as convenient as instant.

It's funny we have 4 different ways to make coffee in my house - a drip coffee maker, a French press coffee maker, a cold brew coffee maker and recently we got a pour over coffee maker
French press, drip, pour over, espresso and aero press. Oh, and a Keurig for when I’m too lazy to put any effort into it.

I’ve got my eye on an xBloom Studio but my wife pointedly asks, which other thing on the counter top will it replace? which seems like a warning of some sort.

I want to start roasting my own again. I have two separate roasters but don't have room inside for a way to cool the beans down fast. I hope to figure out something for the back porch this spring. It's been low on the list of things to do.

I’ve never tried roasting. I think I might enjoy it too much.

Drank energy drinks for the longest time (Red Bull Sugar Free). Knew I needed to quit but not big on hot drinks.

Energy drinks almost killed me. I used to drink two or three monsters a day. Damn near took myself out because I'm a diabetic and didn't know it. I was hospitalized with my blood sugar over 500.

Now about all I ever drink is coffee and water. My A1C has gone from 13+ to 6.4 at last check.

One thing I really enjoy about it is how little time it takes. Back when I did beer brewing at home, it was really a full day process to get it to fermentation. For coffee, I roast a pound at a time and it takes about 30 minutes from set-up to clean-up.

What equipment does it involve? Some baking sheets and an oven?

I can only roast 300 grams with mine. That's fine, though. Dry weight works out to be about three days worth. That's about as long as I want to go between roastings, anyway.

Well, technically you can but you really need some sort of tumbler or stirring effect so the beans roast evenly. A basic one isn't outrageous in price but you can spend some serious money if you get enthusiastic about it.

There's all kinds of approaches you can take. I would not recommend doing it in the oven for a variety of reasons. A common way that people try dipping their toes in to see if it's something want to do is using an air popper. But you can take a look here and explore some different options at different price points:

Dang, glad you quit them! Don’t think the sugar free ones are too good for people either.

I stopped on page 1. Damn, my friend didn't tell me what he paid for his Hot Top. Well, they're retired DINKs. He was a doctor and she was a lawyer.

I typically drink french roast (Keurig) or Netspresso. Both with froth.
The machines are in my office kitchen, so I can prepare one anytime.
The Keurig was the first office equipment I bought when starting up my law practice.

I've been using a Behmor for a very long time and love it. I have fantasies of upgrading to an Aillio Bullet one day. Maybe when I approach retirement I'll turn it into a small business.

Thanks. Or maybe… damn you!!!
