I didn’t realize how young he was when he coached State. He was 33 when he started coaching them and was fired at 43 after 10 seasons with State.I didn't realize Herb Sendek was still coaching. He's in his 10th year as the HC at Santa Clara, which is #39 in kenpom. They are 22-6 after they lost a close game to Gonzaga Saturday night and their best win is against St Mary's. Joe Lundardi has them as an 11 seed with a first round game against 6 seed UNC in Greenville.

I'm glad ncst pushed him out because he was beginning to build a pretty good program over his last 5 years. He took ncst to 5 consecutive NCAAT appearances which tied a ncst record. He was the ACC COY just 2 seasons earlier. And to top it off he didn't put the program on probation in his 10 seasons at ncst which was an amazing accomplishment.I didn't realize Herb Sendek was still coaching. Supposedly, the “cause” is the rant he went on after they lost to Cincy on Wednesday. If KSU hopes to reduce the buyout by more than $100k based on that “cause” then I hope they got a lot of lawyer money ready. The local paper is reporting it’s for cause. I’m sure they just said that knowing they would have a legal fight ahead to hopefully get the whole payment down to half or less.
Agreed. He didn't get them to the Final Four, but in many other ways he was probably the best coach State has had since Valvano. He was certainly the most consistent. I believe he got them to a couple of ACC Tournament title games back when that still meant something, and they came pretty close to beating dook in one of them if I recall correctly. If he had stayed then State would have remained consistently competitive and likely made the NCAA Tourney most years, albeit they would have stayed several notches below UNC and dook and other top ACC teams. But he was bland and boring and they wanted another Valvano, so they fired Herb and got...Sidney Lowe.
