I have no idea if he was cheating at KSU, wouldn't surprise me. But, NIL definitely made cheating a lot less necessary. Bill Self was a long time cheater and I don't believe he does it anymore.

Not just being our little brother, like NC State is to you guys, but Tang was cheating his ass off with Scott Drew at Baylor. Dude is scum. That’s all I’ll say about that.

It is reallllly rare that coaches get fired without a payout
I have no clue what the typical contract says about what constitutes "Cause"
But it seems to favor the coaches
They did not even try with Butch and they had a list of things-kind of little things,but a list

State didn't fire Herb, he took the ASU job while still the coach at NCSU.

You can argue that the fans, if not the AD, ran him off, but they didn't actually fire him.

sorta like UNC didn't fire Mack Brown ?
