KU supposedly getting a nice bump in NIL. Think Self knows he needs to change his system up a little to not have a first weekend exit all but one of the last 7 or 8 years.

TIL College Basketball Crown Championship is a thing. Last yr was the first yr... am i the only one who didn't know about this NIT alternative? And is anyone watching beyond parents of players?

I knew it existed.

You'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth watching. (I have never seen a game of it, personally.)

I posted this on the Duke board, but it feels appropriate for all, these days.

1. Do not bond with any player. This isn't the 80s, 90s or 2000s
2. Do not redshirt any player beyond injury.
3. Do not recruit 4 star and below freshmen. Leave that to lower P4 and G4 schools.
4. Recruit transfers from #3 after 1-2 years of proving themselves.
5. Have 1-2 nice freshmen. The rest upperclassmen transfers.

And college sports absolutely suck, now, FWIW

Number 1 is, by far, the saddest part for me. That's what has changed my enjoyment so much.

I assume in number 3 you mean any freshman that will need any kind of development to be a high-level contributor. There are definitely high 4 star recruits who can contribute right away. Otherwise, agree with everything.

Yeah but at a Duke and UNC, you let the other smaller schools vet those players out (the 4 stars). Cause our teams should be loaded with proven older players and maybe that stud 1-2 freshmen and that's it.

I hate it. The major sports are sooooo broken, and it's sad.

The only issue with #3 is that sometimes the guys who are 4-star at less at the beginning of their junior years rise up in the rankings by the end of their senior years and eventually become OAD. Coby White and Drake Powell are two examples.

Absolutely agree - but are they going to stay to grow? That's why I said it....
Nik K from Duke is transferring. Not because he didn't get to play a lot but because some other school is going to pay him several million to be their star. John Watson posted that someone is offering Pat Ngongba $5M. I like Pat but what the holy hell?

So I would love to grow players at our two schools, but the Michigan (5 transfer starters) model is likely what we will all be going to as top 10 teams. Cause you aren't paying $5M out to your starting 5 and then $2M to your next 3 players.

It's just dumb. So dumb.

I mean I love the Caleb Fosters and Seth Trimbles that stick it out (though it's reported Foster will graduate and transfer for his final season) for 3-4 years. But IMO that feels like it's just dead now for the most part
