Randomly, the Colorado School of Mines women’s basketball team is staying at our hotel (they had a holiday tournament here). One of their players had on a throw-back sweatshirt with their old logo which was identical to the old UNC ram in a sailor hat logo. Colors are different (green and mustard gold).

Also, I am not a short person but I’m not crazy tall and I was startled to be taller than most of their team. Maybe only their guards came to breakfast.

Bought this shirt 35 years ago in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala where the local soccer team is the Super-Rams.

Shirt has since disintegrated.

Colorado School of Mines has a burro (& miner) as their mascot(s) and their colors are blue & silver.

Could it instead have been Colorado State, which are the Rams and whose colors are green & gold?

Maybe, but if you aren't a part of the regular rotation, then seeing 10 minutes at a time has never been an option at Carolina. It just isn't realistic to expect Hubert to have given Tyler Nickel that much time as a freshman - and if he had - people would have complained about that as well.
Must coaches aren't giving non rotation guys 10 minute runs even in blowouts.

The ease of transferring has made keeping guys like Nickel around for 4 years almost impossible.

That was a remarkable loss...incredible they weren't just dumping the ball inside in the second half with the TT guys fouling out.
Exactly. Coaching malpractice but honestly.... When you've been playing basketball as long as these guys have, you shouldn't need a coach to tell you that.
Texas Tech had literally two players who could even possibly score for the last 11 minutes. And yet our impotent guards shot 3s like they were Stef and we were in an all star game

We were definitely overrated but that was a gross one

Definitely understand the frustration of letting a game like that slip away, but I still think Duke is really, really good. They have played a really tough schedule against which they’ve racked up some impressive wins, and to essentially come out of it with one single one point loss on a neutral floor to a top 20 team, bodes really well for the Blue Devils. That’s almost certainly a 1 seed-type team.

You have a team with a lot of Freshmen and Sophomores, this is a game that teaches them to stick to what works and not lose sight of the game plan.

This. Even IM teams know this.

Do we really think that Scheyer was like, "hey guys, keep jacking threes, it's great"? It's sort of amazing to me the way posters say things like, "HD doesn't understand offense" or "Scheyer won't get the ball inside." Hubert Davis has been around the game at a very high level his whole life. There is no way that any poster is going to see something or understand a strategy better than him. Whether he can get the players to execute is a different question.

Well, Texas Tech was missing a lot of players to injury

Heelyeah posted on the IC game thread a strategy point that he definitely understands better than Hubert.

With 38 seconds left in the first half, we made a shot and then Ohio State intentionally bumbled the ball out of the net so that it was able to inbounds the ball with under 30 seconds left and keep us from getting a 2 for 1 opportunity. The correct strategy there is to call the use it or lose it time out so that we would have an opportunity for the last shot of the half, not Ohio State.

Here is a video of Nate Oates correctly employing that strategy:

These will probably lead to the stoppage of the clock in the last minute of the 1st half.

Definitely a good ploy as is.

Yes, the rule absolutely needs to be changed. The clock should stop with less than a minute to play in both halves, not just the second half.

But as is, some coaches understand the best strategy and some don't. Despite what @superrific wrote, sometimes Hubert doesn't know the best strategy.

I haven't seen very many teams deploy this strategy.

It's an unnatural basketball maneuver so some coaches may not want to mess with and spend practice time on it.

No practice time needed. The coach just calls a TO.

I agree that it is unusual. I haven't seen a coach execute this strategy correctly. But as usual, when there is a cutting edge coaching strategy, Nate Oates is on top of it.
