I've thought that NBA game experience may be where the NCAA draws a line and it seems like that might be the case. I'm curious if that will hold up in court.

For now I would be okay with letting the courts beat them-but at least try
For once, I have to kind of agree with the NCAA. What is the point? Spend millions more in litigation to lose again? They dont have the power to set eligibility rules. The schools can and will play absolutely anyone they want to at this point.

This is the shot that eventually changed college sports forever:

It’s Tyus Edney scoring the game-winning basket for UCLA in the last second vs. Missouri in the second round of the 1995 NCAA tournament. UCLA won that game 75-74 and went on to win the NCAA championship that year. That championship win resulted in that 1995 UCLA team being featured in the NCAA Basketball 09 video game. When Ed O’Bannon, star of that 1995 UCLA team, saw his likeness being used in that video game, he sued the NCAA and ultimately became the lead plaintiff in the class action suit O’Bannon v. NCAA. It’s that case that brought NIL to college sports.

Had Edney not hit that shot, UCLA would not have advanced and would not have been featured in that video game. Thus O’Bannon would not have brought he lawsuit or led the class action.

Sure, it’s possible that someone else may have initiated a similar lawsuit, but we don’t know for sure, and even if so, it may have operated on a completely different timeline such that NIL in college sports would not yet be a thing.

I wish they would come out with a college basketball video game now. I don't have a problem with the players getting money. The problem is them being able to transfer to a new team every year without any limits.

I'm fine with money and transferring. Depending on how you look at it, it may not be good for the fans who see new faces a lot more often, but it's also a positive in that any team can go to the "free agent market" and potentially improve immediately.

I don't like having kids sit out. They have 4-5 years to maximize their college athletic experience and make a run at the pros, if they choose. No reason to punish them for doing what they think is best for their current and future situations.

There would be one shortly if 2K hadn't been sore losers after not getting chosen over EA as the preferred licensee and blown up the process by only going after the marquee schools.

Yeah, the portal has resulted in significant change. But that has been exacerbated by NIL, as players are lured away from one team to another to collect a bigger check.

I'm in favor of NIL and while I don't love the transfer rules for continuity purposes, there doesn't seem to be a lot of options without some kind of collective bargaining and in general I'm ok with players being free to move. I don't think a team should be allowed to pluck a free agent off a professional team mid-season and add to their roster. Once the teams are set at the beginning of the year that should be it. I would think the NCAA could make that a rule without running afoul of the courts.

Agree, but that’s cart/horse
Do away with Willy nilly transfer but keep NIL
Do the contract/CBA thing

There is the possibility of appeal.
