I was a Mike Malloy fan during that time. I contemplated applying there until I saw the tuition.
Mike Malloy, Fred Hetzel, Dick Snyder, Barry Teague, Don Davidson....those were the basketball players I idolized as a young 'un. The first college basketball game I remember caring about was Davidson vs Duke at the old Charlotte Coliseum on Independence Blvd. I must have been in fourth or fifth grade.

I wanted to go to Davidson more than anything, but my father saw the tuition and put on the brakes. We didn't know anything bout financial aid, and the "guidance counselor" at our high school was the guy who dealt with behavioral issues, not college admissions issues. In 1972 it was ~$10,000 per year. I just looked up Davidson tuition now....

Cost of Attendance : $90,524
Tuition & Fees : $69,065
Room & Board : $18,384
Books & Supplies : $825
Other Expenses : $2,000
Cost of Attendance : $90,524

With inflation, $10k in 1972 is equal to a shade over $79k now. So while college has outpaced inflation, it’s not nearly as bad as it appears at first glance.

Brutal collapse by Cinci in a game that may have not have been “win and in” but close. UCF on the bubble too (fuck Dawkins) but on the right side of it, especially after that win.

Wes had no settling presence on the court whatsoever. Just a bunch of athletes playing low IQ ball down the stretch making turnover after turnover and rushing bad shots. Day Day was a mess, finally got hot creating a few jumpers in OT but couldn’t get them out of their hole after giving up an 8 point lead with 2 mins in regulation.

Sucks.

UCF wins by 1. I think Miller is gone.
Too bad. I always rooted for Wes. It looks like he may end up with a currently flailing mid-major. He did show that he can make such teams competitive in the mid-major ranks. But did hope to see him find success at a major program. Maybe he’ll get another shot one day. He’s still relatively young.
