Poor Wes, he’s tried hard.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Wes at UNCA...not that the current coach is going to get fired but he might move on. Team was 15-17 this season. Mike Morrell had three 20-win seasons prior to this year. He might be recruited up. He's probably feeling a bit antsy and constricted...even a lateral move might seem a good one to him.

BTW, High Point won the Big South Tournament and is 30-4 going into the NCAAT.

Wes might want out, maybe he cuts them a deal.

I firmly believed (and still believe) that it was HD’s rightful shot to succeed Roy. But that’s not to say, even given his Cinci results, that Wes would’ve necessarily done any better nor worse with the job. His Cinci years don’t prove he couldn’t handle a bigger program. They just prove he couldn’t win at a high enough rate in that city, at that school, with those teams. Plop him somewhere else (including Carolina) and he may have had much more success, and I suspect he will, wherever. All the makings are there.

Coaching is very situational and has a lot of luck involved too. Not everyone likes to admit that, as if it’s closer to some consistent, exact science. Very few coaches are ever able to even make it appear that way. But I bet nearly every one of those would tell you how much good fortune is involved.

I don't know, man, Wes has had quite a few seasons now and has never been able to get his teams over the hump. Cincy puts a lot of resources into basketball, too, so it's not like he's NIL money starved. The other factor that really has the Cincy fanbase wanting him out is the way in which they've lost a lot of close games over the years - there have been tons of late game collapses/choke jobs that show that the teams have the ability to execute well, but fall apart when the pressure is on. Add to that the fact that he's only beaten a truly hated rival, Xavier, once in six seasons, and there just isn't much to get excited about in terms of Wes's coaching ceiling.

Moving to the Big 12 has been a big change for the program and the conference transition shouldn’t be overlooked. I’d be curious how their resources compare to the rest of the Big 12.

That said, competing in the Big 12 is the standard and that’s what Wes should be compared against. If Cincy moves on after this season, hopefully Wes can be judged against the demands he tried to meet and can get another chance elsewhere to see what he can do.

There are no undefeated teams left. Miami of Ohio falls to UMass 87-83 in quarterfinals of their conference tournament.

They should be in the tournament but their seeding just took a huge hit.
Not sure that's really the case. As an at-large team they can't really be seeded any lower than a 11 anyway. Either they'll miss the tourney entirely, or they'll be a 10-11, which is probably where they were headed before, too (I can't imagine they had a real chance at anything higher than a 9).

I seem to remember them discussing their seeding last Saturday on gameday. The consensus was that they were in no matter what but if they lost their seed would suffer.

I'm sure it will be a little lower. I just think we're probably talking, like, one seed line.

If they get a 111 seed, then I imagine they’d have a pretty valid complaint.

Not shocked. I know the Cinderella stories are nice, but teams like them and Saint Louis don't play anyone in their conference and aren't going to last long in the tournament these days.

I’ve seen the ends of some of their last few games. They had some close games. They were bound to lose one sooner or later.
