Not sure why Mike Johnson picked this hill to die on -- kind of bizarre stand to take, TBH.

"... Nine House Republicans joined with all Democrats on a rule vote, which sought to table Luna’s discharge petition to allow proxy voting for new and expectant mothers and new fathers to vote by proxy. ..."

Why is anyone against proxy voting for new and expectant parents in Congress?

“… Top aides and allies to all three men – Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer – say they believe they can’t bring any legislation to the House floor until the GOP leadership is able to turn off Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s (R-FL) discharge petition to allow proxy voting for new mothers and fathers…”

“The GOP leadership has discussed trying to kill the proxy voting resolution again next week. They would up the ante by including language in a rule that would also allow for consideration of the House-Senate budget resolution.”

My guess is that the Republican leadership is concerned that new parents might be in a condition where they would actually care about someone else in the world other than themselves and billionaires. The sort of introspective that results from caring about the vulnerable members of society have caused even the most hardened of Republicans to defy their leadership.

1. It's a wild time when I'm on the side of . . . . Anna Paulina Luna! about any issue.
2. I guess child rearing is the woman's job? Why doesn't the same apply to dads?

I know, I know, she is insane BUT Loomer just had a meeting with Trump at the White House that directly resulted in three Trump-appointed NSC officials being fired no on her recommendation… she has the ear of POTUS.

So the Senate looks likely to pretend that the tax cuts will be free, with Lindsey Graham overruling the parliamentarian.

Thus dies the filibuster. If a Senator can just declare a thing to be deficit neutral or related to budgets, then there's nothing they can't shoehorn into a bill to pass by majority. "Abortion rights are budget-related -- Lindsey Graham said so!"

Dems, take notice. Next time you're in the majority.

Wearing my Jasmine Crockett tee shirt this morning and loving her interview on CNN with Kate Collins. Although I live in NC, I consider her my rep in Congress :)

At the end of this brief interview Collins raises the possibility that Crockett may be in line to become the ranking member on the Oversight Committee. Her battles with James Comer would be legendary. If it were a boxing bout, the ref would stop it in the first.

Watch the video and fall in love with her as I have. She is young, whip smart, and savvy. She is the future of the Democratic Party, and I hope to see her as chair of the Oversight Committee in 2027.

Mark Green resigns from Congress, further shrinking House GOP majority

Mark Green has endorsed Army veteran Matt Van Epps as his successor in the House of Representatives

“… Green, the Republican from Tennessee, said last month that he would leave Congress for the private sector once the House voted again on President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill," in a statement first obtained by Fox News Digital.…”
