Trump Will Get His Showy (And Likely Expensive) Military Parade in D.C.

Trump’s 2018 plans for a parade of military tanks and planes down Pennsylvania Avenue NW were scuttled. But this year no one will stop him.

Nobody should show up.

Justice Department Scales Back Crypto Enforcement

A new policy may wipe out prosecutions aimed at crypto’s use in money laundering and sanctions evasions

Good lord. That is NOT what would usually be treated as pro bono work.

I've actually been in open pit, a/k/a strip coal mines. I've been in underground coal mines: room & pillar, long wall, & short wall. I actually saw the cancelled check my father-in-law had to write to "buy" the pillar of coal under his home so It would not collapse due to subsidence if that pillar had been "robbed." I have been in and worked at several coal preparation plants, that remove some non-combustible parts of coal and some pyrite (sulfur) parts of coal. I've worked at coal fired power plants, one of which burned over 5 million tons of coal a year. Everything Donald Trump says about coal is lie. The day the last coal fired power plant closes down and the day the last coal mine closes down will be glorious for the United States. Coal is an absolute disaster for everyone who mines it, for everyone who burns it, and everyone who breathers the gases created by burning coal. I've seen coal--up close and personal--it has no redeeming qualities.

My grandfather was a tank commander in WWII and after that a mine foreman in coal mines in WVa — he was an LBJ Man all the way when he died of a combo of black lung and kidney and liver failure (alcoholism) in 1977. Loved the guy and he influenced me a lot of ways (for better and worse — he saw my dad as a commie even though he was an Air Force vet because he supported McCarthy over Humphrey, but he (my grandfather, but also my dad) sure hated Nixon). But pretty sure he (grandad) would have been all in on Trump and the coal revival effort. Pretty sure my dad (who died of cancer in January ‘97) would have been a Bernie Bro by now — had he lived into his 80s.

No real relevance to your post than me thinking/posting out loud about two important personal influences. Oh and I’ve seen what a WV coal mining town looks like — my dad used to “sled” down slag heaps on the discarded tin roof of outhouses. Good times.
