CURRENT EVENTS - DECEMBER

I'm also confident Dell got tax benefits from the OBBB that make this "gift" well worth his while.
The let-them-eat-cake vibes are so strong on this. Doesn't he have anyone advising him? $250 is more of a slap in the face than anything.

You know how gift certificates are usually the worst gift? They basically show no thought or consideration, and are worse than cash because they aren't liquid. This is like that. Here, everyone, take a pittance but you can't use it -- it's going to be in an account for a long while, and after 20 years, you'll have enough money to buy a set of tires and maybe lunch at McDonalds while you wait.

By the way, Mrs. Dell's plastic surgery: yikes. Maybe one of the worst cases of "Mar-a-Lago face" I've ever seen.
She looks a bit like Marge Simpson after Homer shot her in the face with his makeup gun.

It is truly atrocious. And that's her look for a glamour shot. I'd say "imagine waking up to that in the morning" but there's no way they sleep in the same bed.

It also looks like these accounts will only exist if the parents take multiple affirmative steps to set them up. Which means the only kids who will get them are the ones from families that are already investment savvy, and therefore far less likely to need them.

As with everything, even when this administration has a not terrible idea (creating seed accounts for American kids), it executes it in the dumbest, most ineffective, most graft-prone way possible.

I just had to buy a set of tires for my car...I would have gladly taken them for free with a McD's lunch thrown in.

That Michael Dell "gift" is the stupidest "philanthropic" gift I've ever seen. $250 to babies just because they were born during Trump's presidency? Arbitrary to say the least, and ineffective. $250 buys . . . 3 tanks of gas. A year of Netflix. Suppose it quintuples over the next 18 years (which would be a good rate of return). The lucky young adult will have . . . $1250.

Well and this was money they already designated for their charitable fund, so redirecting from potentially more impactful large grants to this gift instead. Certainly a lot of money but doesn’t seem like effective philanthropy so much as a political contribution masquerading as philanthropy.

Yes, this was the subtext in my post, but I preferred to attack the idiotic nature of it.

It's so bad I doubled-checked to make sure that video wasn't AI gone wrong.

I don't typically make fun of folks' appearance, but that was legit terrifying.
This is exactly how I responded. I watched the video and immediately thought it was a bad faith AI representation. Oh my.

Did you dig into an account you'd held for 18 years and jump for joy at the philanthropy?
I did not, because no kind, benevolent billionaire set aside such money for me and so I had to go lunchless and pay for my tires myself.

Sad Face GIF

Hillary took so much shit for saying it and it's such mild speech by current standards, but how can you look at a picture of the current Cabinet and not think "Deplorables"?
