I wonder how that works, legally-speaking. I mean, unless the family has a whole lot of money just lying around or they have an investor to purchase (guessing) half the company, he can't easily be bought out of his share of the business.

I guess he could legally forfeit his shares/ownership to his wife and she becomes full owner (or whatever percentage they owned together) of the company. Which is I'm guessing what they're doing.

If he's going away to prison for a long, long time and he wants the company to benefit his (soon-to-be-ex?) wife and kids, I guess there's little reason for him not to just sign it over.
Assuming he has no criminal history, if he's convicted as charged, the best possible outcome for him is 144-185 months in prison. The worst possbile outcome for him is 400-513 months in prison.

“… I immediately understood his October 28 email to be a threat, though it was not made explicit. The day before, I had sent the Pentagon press office a series of questions concerning Eric Geressy, a senior Pentagon adviser to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Geressy, who served with Hegseth during a tour in Iraq in the mid-2000s, is part of the Pentagon effort to instill a “warrior ethos” within the US military. He now leads a team reviewing the role of women in the armed forces.

Calling Geressy “my toughest critic and my best mentor,” Hegseth in March presented him with the Distinguished Service Cross, the Army’s second-highest award for valor, for Geressy’s conduct following an ambush in Baghdad in 2007.

I had discovered that Geressy’s email address was linked to a public Goodreads page with a “currently reading” list that included various books featuring stories about “Asian wife sharing.” These pornographic works, with titles such as “Asian Wife Went With Her Dad’s Friend: A Cuckold Story,” appeared on the list alongside two books by Hegseth and a handful of military histories. They contain detailed descriptions of cuckolding, group sex, and scenes involving “ladyboys”—a term used to refer to Thai transgender women. The page, active since 2021, was taken down the day after I contacted the Pentagon and Geressy about it.

I also asked about a 1997 domestic violence allegation against Geressy, about his dating habits, and past relationships with foreign women. I inquired if the Pentagon had assessed those relationships as part of Geressy’s security clearance process, and, more broadly, if his personal life might create concerns about his susceptibility to foreign influence operations.

… Eventually chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell responded, in part: “Geressy has served for 38 years in the government, has been vetted numerous times by the relevant agencies, and has never posed a security risk or engaged in improper behavior as this piece tries to suggest. Mother Jones has stooped to a new low with this shoddy hit piece and should be ashamed of itself.”

Posobiec’s email arrived the day after my initial inquiries. The false claims he asked about, particularly the Asian fetish thing, seemed to mirror my questions. Posobiec, who in 2016 promoted the bogus Pizzagate conspiracy theory, gave me a deadline, 5 p.m. on October 29, that was the same as the one I had given the Pentagon press office. A Pentagon spokesperson and Posobiec both denied coordination. Geressy declined to comment. But considering the questions, timing, and Posobiec’s links to Defense Department officials, the situation seemed clear.

This was either an incredible coincidence or a deliberate message: Publish your article and get smeared….”

“I am devastated by the charges against Justin and the pain this has inflicted on our family and others.”

“I am devastated by the charges against Justin..." Devistated by the charges being brought?, Not his actions?

"... and the pain this has inflicted on our family and others." What is "this? This only thing you mentioned so far has been the charges against your husband? Did the chareges bring you pain? Or did your husbands actions bring you pain? Care to be specific? Also, you're going to list you and your family first in line when naming people who have been hurt? Toss an "and others" on the end there like an afterthought?

Please go on and explain more to me about how you're the real victim here, I'm listening.

As background, also Jack Posobiec (now a credentialed reporter at the Pentagon):

If you don’t speak Neonazi:

14 = shorthand for the “14 words”, the white supremacist code “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children”

88 = Heil Hitler

This code has also shown up in some DHS posts this year, BTW.

So, kind of the white nationalist version of 67?

So a minimum of 12 years.

Yeah, that's a long time. It would totally be worth divesting if it could protect the company for his stbx-wife & kids.

I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt that she wrote the statement herself and did so hurriedly when she should have hired a good PR person/firm.

The part about “team” and “Mom” struck me as awkward as hell.

I wouldn’t be too hard on someone who just learned that their husband and father of their children, as well as their business partner, is charged with statutory rape along with other serious felony charges. Whatever the case may be, she’s not the villain and this is incredibly devastating for her and her family.

Are you being a little bit harsh, maybe?

How would you react if, all of a sudden, your spouse gets arrested and charged for rape of a 13-year old? It's a lot to process. It's a person you love. You don't want to just assume he did it; I think a spouse gets the right to apply a reasonable presumption of innocence. Plus, if she says she is angry at Justin, then she might forfeit marital privileges about testimony (lawyers can speak to that -- I've long forgotten the details of marital privilege).

I think the statement reads as "I'm really angry at Justin" in subtext.

I am loving this news, so much so that I have reached the giddy stage of being happy.
Pouring myself a drink now . . and thank you Indiana.
: CHEERS :
Between this and Indiana Football, I find myself pretty happy with the state of Indiana right now.

I think the statement reads as "I'm really angry at Justin" in subtext.
The subtext that can/should be read is the discussion here.

I think she likely meant some combination of "I'm really angry at Justin" and "Please don't burn down our business (literally or metaphorically) because Justin is a dumbass".

But subtext is both implied and inferred and it's pretty easy to read a "I, me, I" subtext to her statement when there's a 13 year old who has been SA'd in this situation who is barely mentioned once under "and others".

Actually, the ND backlash is making me happy, as well, so that's another thing in Indiana's favor.

I think I've accepted the existing Trumplicans as a baseline of why they suck and so it's not harshed my recent buzz for the state.
They still revere Bobby Knight.
