CURRENT EVENTS - FEBRUARY 2026

Murray's verbal blather about placing the WaPo "on a stronger footing" and better positioning them for "this rapidly changing era of new technologies" sounds almost exactly like what Bari Weiss said just last week when she outlined her vision for CBS News and pretty much told everyone there who doesn't agree with it to quit. And beneath all the verbiage what it really boils down to is "we're moving in a pro-Trump direction because that's what our bosses are telling us to do, and oh, traditional journalism is dead and the facts and reliable sources and investigative journalism and all that doesn't matter anymore. You can just create your own version of reality and pretend it's the truth because, since there are no standards anymore, it doesn't really matter if what you're reporting is accurate or not."

We're literally witnessing the death of traditional journalism before our eyes. What follows will likely be endless attempts to clone or ape Fox News and "social media influencers" of very dubious backgrounds and reliability.

The Rupert Murdoch school of “journalism” has proven to be far more profitable than any traditional school of journalism could’ve imagined. And when combined with the proliferation of online “new media”—ie, propagandists—journalism as we’ve known it is dead.

We’re watching the death of the US Constitution and Republic.

Kind of clip I generally limit to the shit Trump says thread, but with apologies to folks who try to avoid his nonsense, this one may not be news exactly but is disturbing on several levels:

But it’s not like the cost impacts of that (worldwide) inflationary spike reverted to pre-COVID prices. One of many things where Trump has a legit political argument to make if he were capable of doing so without extreme embellishments and outright fabrications.

Remember when networks reported accurate straight news without expecting to make a profit from its news shows ?

good times...

Once upon a time the news hours were the biggest moneymakers for local affiliates. CNN killed that.

He should blame who was president during COVID

Why compete with everybody else to report the realities of the world, when you can give them a alternate reality that suits your interests and appeals to their fallible human emotions.

Damn. I don’t know anything about Casten but more of him, please!
The vocal clowns chasing hits and clicks on both sides of the aisle eat up most of the media oxygen with intentionally outrageous antics but there really are still credible public servants toiling away in the shadows to the extent the opportunity arises.
