ā€œā€¦ The exercise of comparing fascism’s various forms is not precise. If historians object that Trump is not a copy of Mussolini or Hitler or Franco, the reply is yes—but so what? Trump is building something new on old principles. He is showing us in real time what 21st-century American fascism looks like.

If, however, Trump is a fascist president, that does not mean that America is a fascist country. The courts, the states, and the media remain independent of him, and his efforts to browbeat them will likely fail. He may lose his grip on Congress in November. He has not succeeded in molding public opinion, except against himself. He has outrun the mandate of his voters, his coalition is fracturing, and he has neglected toolsthat allow presidents to make enduring change. He and his party may defy the Constitution, but they cannot rewrite it, thank goodness.

So the United States, once the world’s exemplary liberal democracy, is now a hybrid state combining a fascist leader and a liberal Constitution; but no, it has not fallen to fascism. And it will not.

In which case, is there any point in calling Trump a fascist, even if true? Doesn’t that alienate his voters? Wouldn’t it be better just to describe his actions without labeling him controversially?

Until recently, I thought so. No longer.

The resemblances are too many and too strong to deny. Americans who support liberal democracy need to recognize what we’re dealing with in order to cope with it, and to recognize something, one must name it. Trump has revealed himself, and we must name what we see.ā€œ

I am truly baffled it took this series of violent events for some to see what these people have always been. But there are a lot of people who cannot or will not integrate dangerous information until it directly impacts their life or until the imagery is so horrific the truth is undeniable. And still there will be Americans who claim nothing much has changed or cannot be bothered to vote.

Are there any more Trumpers left on this board? Anyone who voted for Trump in 2020 and 2024? (I know there are some who voted for him in 2016 who now see the error of their ways, I’m not talking about you)

I know I have most - if not all - on ignore or super ignore, so I may not see their comments. Are they still here, trying to defend what their lying eyes are witnessing?

Or have they all flown the coop?

Or perhaps have any changed their minds about any of this stuff?

Or do they still have their heads up Trump’s arse, licking the boots of Stephen Miller and purchasing advance tix to the Melania movie?

If they are using AI to prepare the first draft language that remains subject to expert review and revision, that’s not inherently problematic….

I also just saw this — it IS a Trump campaign ad and he only mentions Fannie Mae at the end. Also it sounds like they doctored his voice (or used an AI substitute?).

If you go into your profile & then click on Ignore and/or Super Ignore, you can check when they last posted or what they might be looking at now. Most of whom I have on Troll Control haven't posted in months. The usual suspects are still skulking about, undoubtedly waiting for just the right time to post something idiotic. Such is the life of a troll, contrarian or otherwise.

As for whether any of them has changed his or her mind "about any of this stuff" ... you're kidding, right? Is there any level of introspection, or even a minimum dollop of reasonable curiosity, possible with these choads? I think almost everyone on this board knows the answer to that question.

Carry on with your censoring efforts with these MAGA morons. I suspect you're not missing much whether they post or not.

Yeah, but this board is an echo chamber of people who think agents of the federal government shouldn't shoot a kneeling, disarmed citizen in the back. We simply haven't been exposed to opinions on the pros of summary state executions.

Thanks.
I may just mosey over to my ā€œtroll controlā€ (I like that, good one) and check in on the choads just for shits and giggles.

But I was just wondering: when MTG and Tillis, and some others start breaking away from Trump/Maga (for whatever their ulterior motives may be) I was just curious to see if any of our proud boyz on this board may have also wondered and wandered down the MTG brick road as well. I mean, great googly-moogly, when Old Marjorie took a hike it had to make some heads take a spin. Take a spin even if just to swivel all the way around and throw up green pea soup.

This sounds nuts until you see similar things happening for different reasons in Minneapolis, for example.
