Live by the sword die by the sword. Redskins name was changed during peak wokeness. Now Trump is leveraging the DC stadium to return the historical name.

Plus how many statutes were torn down during the last Administration? Names of schools and military based? Didn’t governmental officials have better things to do?

Just more culture war red meat to satisfy and distract the MAGA base while they get their pockets picked clean.
He's doing whatever he can to distract from the Epstein files controversy, and he's really good at this type of thing. First there were Tulsi's attacks on Obama for leading a "conspiracy" and "treason" and Trump backing her up, and now this. It's all red meat for his base and is designed to distract them and the news media from the Epstein story. If these distractions don't work there will be others - probably some culture war red meat attacking the LGBTQ community would be my guess. And unfortunately it works far too often.

farce, in the future you can at least remember Lenoir is Caldwell b/c of the L's. Still a coin flip with Morganton and Marion, but at least that narrows it down...
Don’t forget Alexander….small and very backwoods but also wonderful in many ways.

This is getting esoteric, projecting that the Democrats are projecting.
Big time. I guess we all knew they'd get to this point eventually - falsely claiming that it's really Democrats who are projecting, not them, because - wait for it! - it's really the Democrats who have a "cult of personality." Around whom, exactly? Obama has been out of office for nearly a decade and has carefully stayed mostly out of sight since he left office, as has Michelle, Bill is pushing 80 and has also receded from the limelight, and the only people that are keeping Hillary in the news are Republicans, and especially Fox. There is no Democratic "personality" to form a cult around, but conservatives have never let logic stand in the way of projecting their own actions and fears onto liberals.

Former right-wing commentator Lauren Southern says she’s not a white nationalist. Self-described misogynist Andrew Tate says he’s not a rapist. Despite this, white nationalists sure were fans of Southern’s work, and people with questionable views about coercive sex feel the same way about Tate’s.

This past week, Southern accused Tate of raping her. Tate denies this. The accusations came via excerpts from Southern’s forthcoming self-published memoir, which she released for free on her Substack, she says, to avoid accusations that she is trying to profit off the story.

...

In addition to Southern’s racist and xenophobic oeuvre — her most well-known work includes perpetuating the myth of South African “white genocide” and writing “F--- Islam” on her face with lipstick during a “makeup tutorial video” — Southern has long made hay mocking the idea of rape culture. One of her early viral videos from around 2015 featured her telegenically declaring that she was not a feminist, because feminism ignored how often men are raped (she leaves out the fact that men are still the ones doing just about all of the rape). She’s claimed that the real victims of rape culture are men who are falsely accused. She pulled up to an anti-rape demonstration for survivors in Vancouver in 2015 with a sign that read “There is no rape culture in the West,” and encouraged marchers who wanted to encounter “real rape culture” to check out Africa.

...
In her memoir, Southern shows the sort of self-awareness that modern conservatives only exhibit when something bad happens to them personally. She reflects on how the encounter with Tate messed with her head, how she tried to remain on good terms with him even after he’d allegedly brutalized her. She still doesn’t hate him, she claims, writing: “I have forgiven him, truly. But that doesn’t mean he should be free to keep hurting, tormenting, and scamming others.”

...

In that same response, Southern depicts her own actions as valiant: Despite bullying and pressure from mainstream news media, her virtue — let men do whatever and just, like, be cool with it — remained intact.

This would fit well on the FAFO thread.

Day late posting
I was 14 .Hanging out at some friends house that evening. Where there were zero parents that month and we were having a little fun.

I was 11, almost 12, and shooting hoops throughout the evening and running in to check the TV. Eventually, what I remember, is that we settled in to watch. Maybe there was a sleep over involved? It was a Summertime Sunday night. Armstrong made his walk at 4 minutes until 11 pm.

It was my first trip to Snead's Ferry. We were at the chairman of the Deacons' house after my stepfather preached a trial sermon there.

That all happened during Donald Trump 1.0. Silent Sam was a distant memory when Biden was sworn in - so was Saunders Hall.
More than 200 Confederate monuments or statues were removed during the first Trump administration.
But yeah, might as well just blame it on Biden.

If the Republic ends up failing, it's hard to imagine a better epitaph for our tombstone than, "Killed by the sort of self-awareness that modern conservatives only exhibit when something bad happens to them personally."

Also, it really says it all about your so-called "values" when you're defending returning Washington's blatantly racist team name and are opposed to removing statues to traitors who fought to preserve slavery and break up the USA (and which are also the world's greatest participation trophies). I mean, Rammy doesn't think that "Redskins" is a deeply offensive and racist term for Native Americans? I wonder how Trumpers would feel if we created a NFL team called, say, the Memphis White Trash. Fox and Trumpers would be having the vapors.

I think whiteys or crackers is more appropriate. Those are terms used by non whites to objectify white trash, whereas “white trash” is often used by fellow crackers to objectify fellow whiteys. I doubt native Americans called each other “redskins”.
I thought about crackers, but somehow white trash sounded worse. It is a good point though.
