I was so hopeful Prince's While My Guitar Gently Weeps thing was Kennedy Center. But alas, that was the Rock and Roll HOF.

That's the standard for all of these dog and pony shows.

No shit, Nimrata! You're exactly right: the Republican Party ain't conservative and its voters are morons. But you voted for this and enabled it! Also: you ain't ever gonna be POTUS!

Underneath that narcissistic, Alaska-sized ego, Donald Trump has got to be one of the most insecure and petty men alive. He's won two elections over vociferous opposition and in his second term has been getting nearly everything he wants, he has turned one of our two major political parties into his own personal cult of personality that controls all three branches of the government and gives him pretty much anything he demands, he's forcing major universities, news media organizations, corporations, and nearly everything in sight to bend the knee and kiss his ass - and yet he's still whining and crying about having the 2020 election "stolen" from him.

And if you listen to his Kennedy Center Honors remarks he's still crying about most of Hollywood not kissing his ass and accepting him. No matter how many elections he wins or people he humiliates, in his mind he'll always be pissed because the "good people" of New York and the "elites" he so loves to attack have never socially accepted him, and never will. Resentment and feeling rejected is a helluva drug.

In this instance I definitely don't think he's ever going to get what he wants, as his behavior since 2016 has only alienated most of those people even more, and many of them already held him in contempt. And it's not just Trump, the whole MAGA movement is built in part around this resentment. For example, I've read that Alan Dershowitz still rants about his neighbors on Martha's Vineyard socially ostracizing him after the Epstein revelations about him came out (I don't blame them, I wouldn't invite him to social gatherings either after the kinds of credible accusations made against him).

I've never been persuaded that there is a special circle of hell reserved for people who waste good scotch, but there definitely is a special circle for those who know better and do it anyway. And Dersh knows better. He knew better.

Next year the awards will be given posthumously, as the 5 people honored will all be pro wrestlers who have passed on. Hulk Hogan, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, etc. Trump, dressed in an ill-fitting tux, will fall asleep while watching the ceremony, which will be hosted by Kanye, Kid Rock, and Scott Baio.
