I’m somewhat with ram on this one (not entirely). I think that after someone and completed their sentence, they should be able to run for public office. There are certainly cases where people who had been convicted of felonies turn their lives around and become highly predictive citizens who are more than capable of being good public servants and deserving of the opportunity. And voters can decide to what extent the felony conviction will impact their vote and to what extent that candidate is fit for office.

Now Donald Trump does not fit into that category, as he did not complete his sentence. He is also not fit for office and it is extremely troubling that so many people were willing to vote for him despite his past transgressions, the fact that there were clear signs that he would continue similar transgressions, and his overall incompetence.

I can understand that point. Punishment shouldn't be forever. I agree in areas like voting.

I don't agree for the office of President, maybe state or local.

And trump hasn't turned anything around.

Are those the only two bits of testimony that would fall within the SOL? Anything within the SOL for Comey? I haven't read those transcripts, have you? Did you find anything that seemed to violate the 3 statutes you listed?

I ask because it all smacks of retribution against people Trump believes treated him poorly, doesn't it?

The transcript of the Durham interview is not public record.

At the Judiciary Hearing, the testimony I see mentioned is Brennan testifying that "the CIA was very much opposed to having any reference or inclusion of the Steele dossier in the Intelligence Community Assessment." Apparently that's a demonstrably false claim. Perjury? I don't know.

The SOL does appear to substantially limit the possible claims against the two. If that's all the DOJ can uncover then it's an extremely weak case.

I can't find anything on Comey within the SOL.

Appreciate your response, and I tend to agree with you. If your excerpted statement is all there is, I don't think that's the kind of false statement that is worth anyone's time or energy. Without knowing the context, it strikes me as potentially a statement of opinion or degree. Perjury under 18 USC 1621 has to be willful. No idea why Brennan would want or need to deceive Congress on this fact.
