Missouri’s governor signs repeal of state’s guaranteed paid sick leave law

“Eight months after voters approved it, Missouri’s governor, Mike Kehoe, signed the repeal of a law on Thursday that had guaranteed paid sick leave to workers and inflation-linked adjustments to the minimum wage.

… Kehoe, who also signed a package of tax breaks on Thursday, described the paid sick leave law as an onerous mandate that imposed burdensome record-keeping.

… The new tax law excludes capital gains from individual state income taxes, expands tax breaks for seniors and disabled residents, and exempts diapers and feminine hygiene products from sales taxes.

… But Missouri voters could get a second chance at mandating paid sick leave.

Von Glahn has submitted a proposed ballot initiative to the secretary of state that would reinstate the repealed provisions. Because the new measure is a constitutional amendment, the state legislature would be unable to revise or repeal it without another vote of the people. Supporters have not decided whether to launch a petition drive to try to qualify the measure for the 2026 ballot.“

You know my dad-God rest his soul- was a member of Antifa. The US Government trained him during WWII to fight fascists. He and every other American was definitely anti-fascist, or “Antifa” as they said at the time.
What a coincidence ! My dad was too. I wonder if your dad and my dad knew each other. There were so few anti-fascists fighting to protect American democracy during WWII so I would not be surprised if they met and maybe hung out .

The people wearing masks to conceal their identity generally aren't normal members of the "public". They are professional agitators/rioters who are concealing their identity because they intend to commit criminal acts and don't want to be caught. Protesting is protected free speech; rioting is not.
Oh I thought you were talking about ICE agents.

How are ICE agents supposed to know not to arrest each other? They're masked, armed and act suspiciously.

Impersonating an officer is a crime, but it sure seems like it would be easy to infiltrate and impersonate ICE peeps… just to muck things up a bit… give em a black eye.

The problem is how easy it would be to impersonate ICE officers to fuck up some brown people.

Yeah, that's not the antifa that exists today. Those dudes would probably throw a brick through your dad's window if he was still around. Looting and burning down someone's private business because you don't like what one person did 1,000 miles away isn't "anti-fascism", it is essentially terrorism. By the same token, if a group of dudes called themselves the "anti-klan" but rode around in white hoods terrorizing black people, they'd still be racist shitbags despite their name.

My Dad, before died at 95 during Trumps first term, recognized Trump for what he was/is- a dangerous fascist. I’m glad he’s not alive today to see how far down that road Trump has taken this country in only 5 months. Even worse than he feared.

Look, getting your arms around something this awful in terms of loss of life has got to be tough on anyone to comprehend. And he is so far pretty restrained and seems genuinely affected. But honestly, who thinks that the search for bodies after a catastrophe would be easy? That random sentiment doesn’t even make sense.

My grandfather voted against Trump twice. He died at age 98 thinking Trump was out of power for good. At least he had some peace in mind.

The guy who wants to gut FEMA also claims to be the only POTUS who would ever even “get back to you” after a natural disaster …
