It did feel like one of those moments in which an inch changed the next hundred years of world history. We were in Italy when the shooting happened and I said to my family "he was just re-elected".

Almost as if there might be something fishy about an assassination attempt that had a bullet graze his ear with no lasting scar, and resulted in Trump engaging in performance art in the immediate aftermath. It was the most catastrophic Secret Service failure that I can recall. If not for a poor shot, a very high value protectee would have been killed.
I’d understand if Trump was angry. I don’t understand how the head of his security detail that day became his appointment for Director of the Secret Service.
Just imagine the confusion if the US has to get involved in an attack by China on Taiwan. Can we really tell them apart? How are ICE agents supposed to know not to arrest each other? They're masked, armed and act suspiciously.
I'm more amazed that he hasn't simply removed his name from the list and then released it. It's not like anyone whom his base would believe would actually tattle on him and the folks who would raise the issue wouldn't be believed. Then he'd get credit with his base for releasing the list and his presence on the list would just become another point of contention that his base would blame on the Deep State for being out to get him.He said he could shoot someone on fifth avenue and not lose any supporters. He should just release the list and admit that he raped underage girls. I doubt he'd lose many supporters. He wouldn't lose supporters in Congress or his cabinet or on this board.
maybe they have a secret handshake ?How are ICE agents supposed to know not to arrest each other? They're masked, armed and act suspiciously.
Right on cue

“… There were already whispers of messianism among some of Trump’s supporters, such as the QAnon offshoot called Negative 48 whose members frequented his rallies in 2022. Trump has long claimed that God was on his movement’s side, and attendees at Trump rallies have routinely described the events in spiritual terms.
But after the assassination attempt, many of his followers — and most notably Trump himself — more explicitly cast him as a divine instrument.
“It is difficult not to see the hand of Providence in Trump’s survival of two assassination attempts, one by less than an inch,” said Ralph Reed, an influential evangelical leader and Republican strategist.
“President Trump has said publicly he believes God spared his life, and millions of his supporters feel the same way. For what purpose only God knows, but it clearly isn’t an insubstantial one.”…”

Trump Is Gutting Weather Science and Reducing Disaster Response
As a warming planet delivers more extreme weather, experts warn that the Trump administration is dismantling the government’s disaster capabilities.

“… Mr. Trump’s budget proposal for the next fiscal year would close 10 laboratories run by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that research the ways a warming planet is changing weather, among other things. That work is essential to more accurately predicting life-threatening hazards. Among the shuttered labs would be one in Miami that sends teams of “hurricane hunters” to fly into storms to collect critical data. The proposed budget would also make major cuts to a federal program that uses river gauges to predict floods.
The president is also envisioning a dramatically scaled-down Federal Emergency Management Agency that would shift the costs of disaster response and recovery from the federal government to the states. The administration has already revoked $3.6 billion in grants from FEMA to hundreds of communities around the country, which were to be used to help these areas protect against hurricanes, wildfires and other catastrophes. About 10 percent of the agency’s staff members have left since January, including senior leaders with decades of experience, and another 20 percent are expected to be gone by the end of this year.
… National security and disaster management experts agreed that FEMA — or any federal agency — could be improved but they said the chaotic changes the Trump administration is making to FEMA, as well as other parts of the government, are harmful….”

Maybe the issue with removing his name is that it would look like this:I'm more amazed that he hasn't simply removed his name from the list and then released it. It's not like anyone whom his base would believe would actually tattle on him and the folks who would raise the issue wouldn't be believed. Then he'd get credit with his base for releasing the list and his presence on the list would just become another point of contention that his base would blame on the Deep State for being out to get him.
This has been the case since trump’s first term. The head of accuweather had a spot in his administration.“As commerce secretary, Howard Lutnick oversees the U.S. government’s vast efforts to monitor and predict the weather.
The billionaire also ran a financial firm, which he recently left in the control of his adult sons, that stands to benefit if President Donald Trump’s administration follows through on a decade-long Republican effort to privatize government weather forecasting.
… “It’s the most insidious aspect of this: Are we really talking about making weather products available only to those who can afford it?” said Rick Spinrad, who served as NOAA administrator under President Joe Biden, a Democrat.
“Basically turning the weather service into a subscription streaming service? As a taxpayer, I don’t want to be in the position of saying, ‘I get a better weather forecast because I’m willing to pay for it.’”
… Trump’s pick to lead the NOAA, Neil Jacobs, was chief atmospheric scientist for Panasonic Weather Solutions and has been a vocal proponent of privatization. The president’s nominee for another top NOAA post, Taylor Jordan, is a lobbyist with a roster of weather-related clients.
… Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, who spent more than $250 million to help elect Trump, owns a controlling interest in SpaceX and its satellite subsidiary Starlink. Both are regulated by the NOAA’s Office of Space Commerce, which lost about one-third of its staff in February layoffs facilitated by the Department of Government Efficiency, which Musk helped create….”
And don’t forget the fossil fuel investors who want to end climate science research …
“… that report needs to be validified …”
