“… The White House sent Congress a $9.4 billion rescissions package Tuesday that would codify some spending cuts made by the Trump administration, effectively asking lawmakers to reverse spending they previously voted into law. The White House also is weighing the use of a separate, controversial process called impoundment to claw back funds, sidestepping the legislative branch and setting up a likely legal battle.

The rescissions package, which includes $8.3 billion in cuts to foreign aid and $1.1 billion to public media, can pass the House and Senate with a simple majority. Republicans control both chambers of Congress, but it isn’t clear what sort of rescissions could be approved, and the administration is expected to propose more cuts if Tuesday’s package is successful.

“… With hurricane season kicking off this month, Richardson told staff Monday that the agency would be returning to the same guidance for hurricane response as last year. Some were confused how that would be possible, given the agency had already eliminated key programs and sharply cut its workforce.

For example, FEMA’s hurricane guidance typically includes plans for staffers who go door-to-door helping storm survivors. But that program has been rolled back, leaving it unclear how the agency should now adjust those operations, which could have a domino effect on other responses.

…The new FEMA leader suggested he recently learned there was an annual hurricane season, stunning members of the workforce of the agency tasked with responding to disasters. He has expressed surprise in meetings at the scope of the agency’s mission, The Wall Street Journal previously reported.

“Yesterday, as everybody knows, [was the] first day of hurricane season,” Richardson said. “I didn’t realize it was a season.”

Hurricane season lasts from June 1 through the end of November.

“Despite meanspirited attempts to falsely frame a joke as policy, there is no uncertainty about what FEMA will be doing this Hurricane Season,” said a FEMA representative, adding, “FEMA is laser focused on disaster response, and protecting the American people.”…”

The CA HS sports governing body made a special rule that allowed a transgender athlete to compete but if the transgender athlete placed, the competitor just behind her shares that place. So when the transgender athlete placed second in an event, the otherwise third place finisher was also deemed in second place and the fourth place finisher moved up to third. When the transgender there finished first in two events, the second place finisher also finished first and everyone else moved up a spot.

This is track and field, not a contact sport. And any alleged concern about girls somehow losing out was resolved — the placement of the transgender athlete didn’t take anything from the other competitors.

But Trump (who has zero authority over this event and its rules) is threatening huge fines (because I am sure girl’s HS track is for profit and swimming in cash) because the transgender student was allowed to participate under hastily changed rules implemented shortly before the meet that didn’t cost any other competitor a place on the podium due to the transgender athlete’s results.

Not really a surprise. DC is toxic territory for Trump and Republicans generally, and I doubt most out-of-town visitors have going to the Kennedy Center as a must-see part of their visit. And most Trumpers are not the types to go to Kennedy Center shows anyway. They'll probably struggle to sell tickets to events as long as Dear Leader is running (ruining?) it.
