“… When it was all over, Trump apparently decided he had been thinking too small. In his first term, he made improper millions. In his second term, he is reaching for billions: a $2 billion investment by a United Arab Emirates state-owned enterprise in the Binance crypto exchange using the Trump family’s stablecoin asset. An unknown number of billions placed by Qatar in a Trump-family real-estate development in that emirate, topped by the gift of a 747 luxury jet for the president’s personal use in office and afterward.

Government-approved support for a Trump golf course in Vietnam while its leaders were negotiating with the United States for relief from Trump tariffs. Last week, Trump hosted more than 200 purchasers of his meme coin, many of them apparently foreign nationals, for a private dinner, with no disclosure of the names of those who had paid into his pocket for access to the president’s time and favor.

The record of Trump real-estate and business projects is one of almost unbroken failure; from 1991 to 2009, his companies filed for bankruptcy six times. Few if any legitimate investors entrusted their money to Trump’s businesses when he was out of office.

But since his return to the White House, Trump has been inundated with cash from Middle Eastern governments. Obscure Chinese firms are suddenly buying millions of dollars’ worth of Trump meme coins. So are American companies hard-hit by the Trump tariffs and desperately seeking access and influence. After Trump invited major holders of his crypto funds to dinner, Wired quoted a crypto analyst about the coin’s value proposition: “Before, you were speculating on a TRUMP coin with no utility. Now you’re speculating on future access to Trump. That has to be worth a bit more money.”

Nothing like this has been attempted or even imagined in the history of the American presidency. Throw away the history books; discard feeble comparisons to scandals of the past. There is no analogy with any previous action by any past president. The brazenness of the self-enrichment resembles nothing seen in any earlier White House. This is American corruption on the scale of a post-Soviet republic or a postcolonial African dictatorship.…”

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service has suspended two uniformed officers who were reportedly caught on camera fighting each other outside former President Barack Obama’s home last week.

Obviously unacceptable behavior but there is a long and dispiriting list of embarrassing behavior by the Secretary Service over the last 20 years …

And so on. To imply DEI is to blame for somehow undermining Secret Service behavior or capabilities in light of their discouraging history of embarrassing behavior this century is laughable.

I’d suspect getting more women in the secret service would significantly cut down on the illicit hiring of Colombian prostitutes.

Trump has ordered a critically ill four-year-old Mexican girl to leave the country. She could die within days, experts say

Deysi Vargas and her 4-year-old daughter were granted temporary humanitarian permission to enter the U.S. in 2023 due to a life-threatening condition

“… Deysi Vargas’s 4-year-old daughter, named only as Sofia in a GoFundMe page, urgently required better medical care for a life-threatening condition and was granted temporary humanitarian permission to enter the U.S. from her home country of Mexico in 2023, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Sofia has short bowel syndrome, a rare condition that stops her from absorbing nutrients in food. When she was born in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, she had to be attached to feeding tubes 24 hours a day. Since moving to the U.S., her condition has significantly improved, but she still requires treatment every day.

Now the Trump administration has ordered Sofia’s deportation, leaving her at risk of death, an attorney representing the family said.

“This is a textbook example of medical need,” Rebecca Brown of the pro bono firm Public Counsel told the paper. “This child will die and there’s no sense for that to happen. It would just be a cruel sacrifice.”

… The threat to Sofia’s life was confirmed by Dr. John Arsenault of the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she receives regular treatment every six weeks.

Arsenault said in a letter seen by The Los Angeles Times that if there is an interruption to administering nutrition to her system, “it could be fatal within a matter of days.”

The doctor added that patients who receive the treatment, called Total Parenteral Nutrition, at home “are not allowed to leave the country.”

“The infrastructure to provide TPN or provide immediate intervention if there is a problem with IV access depends on our program’s utilization of U.S.-based healthcare resources and does not transfer across borders,” Arsenault explained in the letter.…”

Mexican doctors botched her bowel surgery, leaving her with the short bowel condition. So her parents sought a medical exemption to come to the U.S. for medical care, which was granted during the BIden administration…

“… Sofia’s care is still gruelling. She must still spend 14 hours a night hooked up to the intravenous feeding system and Vargas also has to administer different medication that goes into her stomach through a gastric tube four times a day. At preschool, a school nurse has to administer nutrition daily.

As things were beginning to look up, the notice from immigration arrived, swiftly followed by a notice terminating her employment authorization.

Their attorney believes the family’s legal status was terminated by mistake and has submitted a petition for a continuation of temporary humanitarian legal status because of Sofia’s medical condition.…”
