CURRENT EVENTS — NOVEMBER

Meanwhile

I've been reading for several years that we're living in a Second Gilded Age, and this sequence of photos of Dear Leader and his plutocrat buddies living it up at a lavish Halloween Party juxtaposed with images of hungry people lining up to get food from food banks after their SNAP benefits are cut pretty much proves it. "Let Them Eat Cake" and "The Public Be Damned!" indeed.

Hey @nycfan do you think the maga infighting stuff could get its own thread?

It’s a selfish thing on my part. That stuff is part of the slimy disgusting element of social media that I just don’t want to see at all. It’s now infecting multiple threads around here.

I appreciate all that you do around here and your attention to detail. If you don’t want to micro-manage those posts nbd.
Fair point. If I post any more about it, will either use the Kirk thread or start a new one.

The Guardian is located in the UK and is independent, which accounts for a lot of it. The BBC, Reuters, and some other British media outlets are also much more reliable than almost anything left here. Given that these news media agencies are located in the UK it will likely be more difficult to take them over than it has been with American media outlets like CBS or CNN, which are being rapidly bought out by Trump buddy billionaires and corporations in a deliberate effort to dominate the American news media market and present a unified state propaganda machine like Orban has in Hungary.

If you're going to get decent news coverage in the future people are likely going to have to find foreign outlets, as there are fewer and fewer independent or reliable or non-Trumper news outlets here, and that's by design. Trumpers have been playing the long game in so many areas, and it is paying off for them more successfully than even they could likely have dreamed.

I expect foreign outlets and their reporters to soon be barred (if US citizens) or deported (if foreigners) from reporting in the US.

I think WSJ and NY Times are still pretty good.

As AI gets better and better, it's going to be harder and harder to tell real events from fake ones.

But you know that Fox News and its viewership are going to lead to the way in falling for absolutely fake bullshit.
