It is difficult not to be extremely suspicious of al-Sharaa (aka Al-Jawlani) BUT the shifting sand of international politics often requires communications with former enemies and assorted unsavory characters.
The chance to stabilize Syria (and eliminate a Russian and Iranian foothold) is too valuable to pass up, I guess. But definitely a risky local partner.

I know it's been said before, but it's worth repeating that if an enemy nation were trying to gravely weaken and damage and perhaps destroy the United States, they couldn't be doing a better job than Trump & Company are currently doing. With friends like these the USA doesn't need enemies.
